Overview
Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a Full-Time (10 Sessions) Consultant Psychiatrist within the Birkenhead and Wallasey Adult & Older Peoples Mental Health Service. The successful applicant will provide leadership to community staff and community care to patients with dementia (and related conditions) and severe and enduring mental disorders aged 65 and above. The post is expected to contribute to developing community services in Wirral and to provide flexible cover to other old age community consultant psychiatrists in the Wirral. The consultant will participate in the Consultant Psychiatrist on-call rota.
Responsibilities
* Manage, appraise and provide professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director and in accordance with the Trust’s personnel policies and procedures.
* Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
* Record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
* Participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, where appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
* Participate in annual appraisal for consultants.
* Attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
* Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council and Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and abide by professional codes of conduct.
* Participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager, to ensure the post develops in line with service configuration and delivery changes.
* Collaborate with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure efficient running of services and contribute to management alongside consultant colleagues.
Qualifications and requirements
* Current medical registration with the General Medical Council and Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval where applicable.
* Experience in Old Age Psychiatry and leadership roles within community services.
* Ability to work flexibly to cover other old age community consultant psychiatrists in Wirral when needed.
* Willingness to participate in on-call rota and to contribute to service development and planning.
