We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a band 5 Staff Nurse to Ward 18. We require an outstanding individual who is a committed, experienced registered nurse to come and join our amazing team.
Ward 18 is currently under reconfiguration and this post will be to be on ward 18 caring for a combined general medicine and Days Kept Away from home ward, caring for people who are medically optimised for discharge.
Main duties of the job
Deliver high-quality, compassionate, person-centred nursing care to patients with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions.Undertake comprehensive patient assessments, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care in line with evidence-based practice and Trust policies. Monitor patients’ physical condition, escalate deterioration promptly, and contribute to effective clinical decision-making within the multidisciplinary team.Administer medications safely in accordance with prescriptions and medicines management standards. Maintain accurate, timely and professional clinical documentation using electronic patient record systems.Support patients and families through treatment, recovery and discharge planning, promoting dignity, privacy and informed decision-making.Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective patient flow, safe discharge planning and continuity of care. Supervise and support healthcare assistants, students and newly appointed staff, acting as a role model for best practice. Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, audits and learning from incidents.Adhere to infection prevention and control, safeguarding, health and safety, and information governance requirements at all times.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To ensure the provision of excellent care with compassion the Staff Nurse is responsible for:
1. Ensuring that the team within their department are adequately resourced and organised.
2. Ensuring the team are adequately supported and developed to deliver excellent care with compassion in line with the Trust’s Values & Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework.
3. You will be expected to provide clinical supervision and advice for staff and students in order to support them in reaching their full potential
4. Ensuring the productive operation of the unit/department through the monitoring and maintenance of standards that create a safe, clean and organised environment for patients and staff.
Person specification
Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
5. RN1, RN2, RN8 OR RNC General Nursing Registration
6. NMC recognised Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards following 18 months commencement in post
7. Appropriate NMC Registration
8. Evidence of continuing education or development for more experienced Band 5 nurses
Desirable criteria
9. Degree
10. Post registration qualification in area of speciality
11. Evidence of continuing professional education or development in area of speciality
12. Mentorship qualification or willing to work towards
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
13. Awareness of changes within Nursing practice
14. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
15. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
16. Willing to expand clinical role eg IV additives, venepuncture and cannulation
17. Demonstrates competency during internship
Desirable criteria
18. Knowledge of ethical issues
19. Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality eg surgery
20. Knowledge of Leadership and Management
21. Research and Development
22. Experience in Acute Stroke Care
23. Knowledge of National Stroke Guidelines
