About the Opportunity
I’m recruiting on behalf of a well-established and reputable builders’ merchant who are looking to add a motivated Trade Counter Assistant to their team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys face-to-face customer service, product advice, and being part of a fast-paced, hands-on trade environment.
The Role
As Trade Counter Assistant, you’ll be the friendly face of the branch, supporting both trade and retail customers. You’ll offer product guidance, process orders and enquiries, and help ensure a smooth, efficient customer experience. This is a key operational role that contributes directly to customer satisfaction and branch performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Greeting customers at the trade counter and delivering excellent service
- Processing orders, quotes, and returns both in person and over the phone
- Advising on building materials, tools, and related products
- Supporting stock control, merchandising, and counter presentation
- Working collaboratively with warehouse, yard, and internal sales teams
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and customer-friendly counter area
- Helping achieve branch sales targets through knowledgeable product recommendations
What We’re Looking For
- Experience within a builders’ merchant, trade counter, or construction supply setting is beneficial—but not essential
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work confidently in a busy, hands-on environment
- Eagerness to learn product ranges and develop skills
- Basic IT skills for order processing
- Proactive, reliable, and team-oriented attitude
