What is a Service Technician/Mechanic?
Our apprenticeship is geared toward training the next generation of fully‑fledged Service Technicians/Mechanics. Service Technicians/Mechanics service and repair light vehicles such as cars up to 3.5 tonnes. They are trained in all areas of vehicle mechanics and electronics, from engine and exhaust systems to air conditioning and security features.
Responsibilities
* Servicing vehicles – carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturers’ guidelines.
* Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components.
* Advising the Service Receptionists about required repairs.
* Producing time estimates.
* Maintaining repair and service records.
Please note, the role varies slightly by employer based upon the specific needs within the location.
Qualifications
GCSE grades 9‑4 (A‑C) or equivalent in English, Maths and two other subjects are required.
In Scotland, applicants must have or be predicted to achieve Scottish National 5 grades A‑C or above in English, Maths and either a Science or Technical subject.
Equivalent grades include:
* BTEC first diplomas and certificates
* OCR Nationals
