Early Help Vision

KCC Early Help Vision is that every child and young person, from 0 to 19 (25) years and their family, who needs early help services will receive them in a timely and responsive way, so that they are safeguarded, their educational, social and emotional needs are met and outcomes are good, and they are able to contribute positively to their communities now and in the future, including their active engagement in learning and employment.

Opportunity Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for three permanent Early Help Workers to join our dynamic Early Help Intensive Units in the East of Kent to continue the positive work we are doing in the Canterbury and Thanet areas.

Qualifications & Experience

Hold a Level 3 diploma (or equivalent) in childcare, Health, Social Care, Youth Justice, Education, Youth Work or a relevant field with experience in a relevant role or evidence of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Manage a workload of complex cases, providing a high‑quality, effective and responsive service for children, young people and their families, targeting support as required at critical times and stages of development. The issues may include domestic abuse, mental health challenges, prevention of the need for statutory social care intervention, children and young people experiencing significant attendance or behavioural difficulties, parenting intervention, and step‑downs from Children’s Social Work Services.

Build relationships with children, young people and their families; gather and interpret information, undertake family assessments, and deliver 1:1 work, tailored to the needs of individual children/families, underpinned by the Signs of Safety Model.

Demonstrate knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and regulatory frameworks. Work closely with a range of partner agencies, including schools, and collaborate to innovate and find new solutions, taking personal and professional responsibility for your actions and performance.

Additional Requirements

Ability to travel in a timely and flexible manner across the wide geographical area of the Canterbury and Thanet Districts at various times of the day is essential.

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer‑facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

Interviews will be held w/c 8th June 2026.

Equal Opportunity Statement

KCC is committed to building a workforce which reflects the diversity of the county's working residents, encouraging applications from people of all ages, abilities, genders, sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds, faiths and those with caring responsibilities, and aspires to create an inclusive workplace where everyone can be themselves at work.
