Infection Prevention and Control Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the well-established NUH Infection Prevention and Control Team. We are looking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic, experienced professional with excellent communication skills who wants to make a positive difference to join the Infection Prevention and Control Team.

Infection Prevention and Control is a Trust priority and the Team have developed in the last year and work 7 days per week.

It's not an easy role and some days are going to be really tough. However, we know this will be offset by knowing you are doing such an important job especially during unprecedented times. Main duties of the job

* Contribute advisory and clinical input to facilitate quality infection prevention and control care for patients
* Provide clinical advice, leadership, support and counselling for patients, relatives and the general public on hospital infection prevention and control issues
* Provide advice on infection prevention and control activities including isolation, with participation in their introduction and practice
* Recognise, investigate and implement the necessary action to resolve HCAI issues
* Investigate outbreaks of hospital infection, with particular reference to their source and mode of spread
* Identify potential infection hazards for patients, staff, equipment or procedures
* Assist staff with the interpretation of laboratory reports relevant to the control of infection and relating relevant clinical information to the laboratory staff
* Collect relevant clinical data for use by the Infection Prevention and Control Department

The successful applicant will be supporting the organisation in reducing the risks of healthcare associated infection. Job responsibilities

The post holder will work within the well-established Infection Prevention and Control team. The team covers all three sites as part of NUH. The post holder will be expected to rotate primarily between the QMC and City Campus. The service is available between the hours of 8-5 seven days per week.

Person Specification


Experience

* 2 years' post registration experience in an Acute Trust
* Conveys concepts in an easily understood language
* Set and achieve standards for own behaviour and personal presentation
* Clear demonstrates and interest and understanding of IPC


Training & Qualifications

* 1 st level Registered Nurse/ Midwife
* Relevant teaching experience
* Prepapred to undertake a recognised diploma/ degree infection prevention and control qualification


Communication and relationship skills

* Persuasive, motivational and negotiating skills
* Problem solving and descision making skills involving a range of facts
* Ability to influence in clinical situations


Analytical and Judgement skills

* Display initiative
* Highly motivated
