Technical Customer Advisor (6 Month Fixed Term/Secondment)
Fairmilehead Office, Edinburgh
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Scottish Water looks after 300 reservoirs – essential for drinking water, and cherished natural spaces for communities and visitors. We’re committed to responsible public access, supporting tourism, and connecting people with their environment.
Visitor Management Ranger
We’re looking for a Visitor Management Ranger (6-month fixed term) to join our Corporate Affairs team from May 2026. You’ll help deliver visitor management plans across key sites in Edinburgh, the Lothians, and Central Scotland.
What you’ll do
You’ll welcome visitors, patrol key routes, and provide guidance on responsible behaviour. You’ll raise awareness of water risks and why reservoirs differ from other bodies of water.
Looking after the sites, you’ll coordinate volunteer work like litter picking and engage with local community groups. You’ll organise and deliver events such as guided walks and talks.
Flexibility and resourcefulness are key, along with a strong focus on health and safety. You’ll conduct risk assessments, report maintenance issues, and carry out minor or emergency repairs.
You’ll also seek ways to improve site access, advising project teams on Scottish Outdoor Access Code provisions and ensuring visitor access is considered in capital projects. Additionally, you’ll help collect data to support reporting on visitor access targets.
What you’ll need
You’ll have experience working with the public in a customer-focused role, with strong communication skills to provide information, solve problems, and reassure visitors. A solid understanding of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and related legislation is essential.
You’ll enjoy working outdoors, covering rough terrain in all weather. Since much of the role is independent, self‑motivation is key, but you should also be keen to support team goals.
Looking out for you
We offer work‑life balance with 38 days of holiday per year (including public holidays); you can buy five additional days and take paid time off to volunteer.
Family‑friendly policies cover adoption, maternity, and parental leave. Flexible working is supported.
Benefits include pension, life assurance, an annual company bonus, and access to SW Splash rewards.
The not‑so‑small print
This is a Grade 4 role. Salary ranges from £31,640 to £36,640, based on performance and progression.
We operate a Balanced Hybrid working model, encouraging employees to work half their time at a Scottish Water location.
Applicants must be Scottish taxpayers living in Scotland and will need to commit to moving to Scotland within three months if not already residing here.
Drug & Alcohol testing may be conducted in line with policy.
