We are seeking an experienced and driven Technical / Quality Manager to lead quality excellence across our business. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you will take ownership of our Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 while driving continuous improvement across all operations.

You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping quality standards, improving performance, reducing defects, and ensuring we consistently exceed customer expectations. Pym & Wildsmith (Metal Finishers) Ltd has over 40 years’ experience in providing high‑quality finishes to UK industry. Our Headquarters are based in Bramshall, Staffordshire. Our extensive facilities include powder coating, wet spray, EPD, shot blasting and pre‑treatments as well as an experienced technical department.

Role & Responsibilities

Quality Management System (QMS):

* Maintain and continuously improve the QMS in line with ISO 9001 and other applicable standards
* Ensure effective document control procedures for approval, review, and updates
* Maintain accurate QMS records including storage, protection, retrieval, and retention
* Support and participate in Management Reviews with senior leadership and EHS Manager
* Establish and monitor measurable quality objectives
* Analyse performance data to identify trends and drive improvements
* Lead corrective and preventive actions, ensuring effectiveness
* Liaise with external certification bodies for audits and accreditation
* Support implementation of additional standards where required
* Ensure control plans, testing schedules, and equipment calibration are maintained
* Oversee development and management of SOPs


Technical Leadership - Metal Finishing

* Provide technical expertise across metal finishing processes (surface preparation, coating, inspection, and testing)
* Develop internal quality standards aligned with customer specifications
* Support product and process development with technical inputEnsure correct preparation, processing, and inspection stages are defined and followed
* Implement core quality tools and methodologies
* Issue and manage Quality Alerts through to completion


Customer and Supplier Quality

* Ensure customer requirements are clearly defined, understood, and achieved
* Drive reductions in rework, defects, and contamination
* Improve OTIF (On Time In Full) and RFT (Right First Time) metrics
* Investigate and manage customer complaints professionally and efficiently
* Represent the company during customer interactions and visits
* Define acceptance criteria and reporting standards with customers
* Manage supplier selection, evaluation, and performance monitoring


Leadership and People Management

* Lead, manage, and develop the Quality team
* Conduct appraisals, performance reviews, and probation management
* Identify training needs and support ongoing development
* Deliver quality training and QMS awareness across the business
* Promote a collaborative, solutions‑focused culture
* Lead regular quality review meetings with operational and senior teams


What you'll need to succeed

* Proven experience as a Quality Manager or Technical Manager within metal finishing, surface treatment, or a related manufacturing environment
* Strong working knowledge and practical experience of ISO 9001
* Experience managing external audits and certification bodies
* Solid technical understanding of metal finishing processes and inspection/testing methods
* Experience managing and developing teams
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills (root cause analysis, corrective actions)
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels including customers and senior management


Hours of Work

36 hours per week

Monday - Thursday 07:30 - 17:00 (4 day working week)
