Overview
Girls' Division, Bolton School, requires from January 2026 (or earlier if possible) a dynamic and talented teacher on a fixed-term basis to cover a maternity leave for two terms. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to a well-resourced and flourishing department with an impressive record of examination and Oxbridge success. The role is suitable for an entrant to the profession or for someone with experience of other schools.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and committed teacher of Classics, capable of inspiring able and highly motivated students inside and outside the classroom. The ability to offer Greek would be an advantage. A graduate with at least a good honours degree and the necessary academic, educational and organisational experience is required. The candidate should be committed to the welfare and individual development of all pupils and prepared to play a meaningful role in the wider life of the school.
Department, Curriculum and Enrichment
The Department is committed to enthusing students to study the ancient world, often through Latin and Classical Greek. Learning extends beyond the classroom to hands-on classical crafts, cross-curricular seminars and off-site study in the UK and abroad. Enrichment activities include online lectures, plays and university study days. The Foundation Head of Classics leads a team of five other teachers (one part-time) across both Boys’ and Girls’ Divisions. Latin and Greek are offered from KS3 to A Level in both divisions, with Classical Civilisation offered at GCSE and A Level in the Boys’ Division.
About Bolton School
Bolton School is a large, academically selective day school with around 2,500 pupils. It has a 32-acre campus and a strong record of academic achievement and enrichment activities. The school comprises three divisions: Girls', Boys’ and Primary, with a history of evidence-based practice through the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI) since 2022. CERI collaborates with staff and external institutions to investigate and share effective educational practice.
