Consultant General Paediatrician with interest in eating disorders

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

We expect everyone that works for the Health Board, regardless of their role, to share and uphold our values in all that they do:

* Caring for each other - in every human contact in all of our communities and each of our hospitals.
* Working together as patients, families, carers, staff and communities so that we always put patients first
* Always improving - so that we are at our best for every patient and for each other.

Job overview

We wish to appoint a Consultant Paediatrician to join our team of dedicated general paediatricians. As well as providing support to our patient inpatient unit and outpatients, the successful candidate would work 2 sessions per week alongside CAMHS colleagues as the paediatric link for the eating disorder service.

You will be expected to participate in the Consultant on call rota (1:14) and current service week arrangements at Morriston Hospital undertaken. This is an eight session post with appropriate sessions for supporting professional activities. The department envisages that this would be divided as eight sessions for general paediatric duties including inpatient and outpatient and two sessions working with the eating disorder service.

The CAMHs Eating Disorder Service carries out approximately 2 assessments each week for young people with a suspected eating disorder. This is an exciting opportunity to develop the role of the link paediatrician, but it is currently envisaged that you will support the wider CAMHs Eating Disorder MDT in the physical health assessment of these young people and developing an expertise within the physical health challenges of children with an eating disorder.

You will also support the multidisciplinary team with their expertise in physical health for the wider eating disorder caseload. There will also be opportunities to help develop the eating disorder service including supporting local policy and guidelines.

Main duties of the job

Your role as part of a multi-disciplinary team will include responsibility for the provision of clinical care for children and young people focusing on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. Your management responsibilities will include the safe, efficient and effective functioning of the services in which you work in line with the values, operational policies and integrated medium term plan (IMTP) of the Health Board.

You are encouraged to consider how services can be improved and to report any concerns about safety. You will participate in the Consultant on call rota at Morriston Hospital, with prospective cover. In exceptional circumstances it may be necessary to undertake duties at other locations with the Health Board. Travelling as necessary between hospitals/clinic will be required to undertake such duties.

There may be changes to the consultant working patterns as part of improving workforce within the department. You will adhere to all policies which cover radiation exposures as currently outlined in IRMER regulations. The Health Board is committed to meet its obligations to minimise infection. You will be required to comply with current procedures for the control of infection, including dress-code, to challenge non-compliance by colleagues, and to attend training. You may be asked to be the Educational Supervisor for trainees. This will involve overseeing their training and being the initial source of advice for doctors regarding their careers.
