About the Role
Geospatial Engineer: This role provides the chance to operate at the cutting edge of geospatial technology, transforming complex remote sensing and GIS datasets into meaningful insights and visualisations for real-world applications. As a Geospatial Engineer, you will be involved in data preparation, management, analysis, mapping, and visualisation, while contributing to the evolution of innovative internal projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform end-to-end geospatial processing including data acquisition, cleaning, transformation, and integration of satellite (SAR, optical, multispectral) and GIS datasets.
* Prepare, manage, and maintain spatial databases, ensuring high data quality, consistency, and traceability across multiple projects.
* Conduct spatial analysis using Python, GIS tools (QGIS/ArcGIS), and cloud platforms to produce reliable insights that support engineering decisions across the Utilities sector.
* Collaborate with the Software and Engineering teams to integrate geospatial models and algorithms.
* Contribute to R&D initiatives by researching new remote sensing techniques, evaluating new EO data sources, and implementing innovative analytical methods.
* Assist with field-related preparation and interpretation activities when required, including validation of satellite‑derived indicators with ground observations.
* Participate in project meetings, provide technical input, and communicate progress effectively within a multi‑disciplinary team environment.
* Support continuous improvement by helping to design and implement automation scripts, templates, and scalable geospatial processes.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Experience in industry sectors such as Utilities is ideal, but experience in any other engineering industry would be considered.
* A higher Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Geography, Environmental, Remote Sensing, Survey, Geomatics or Geospatial Engineering is essential.
* Proficiency in Python is required. Knowledge of additional languages (e.g., Java, SQL) is advantageous.
* Knowledge of working with multiple EO (Earth Observation) data sources.
* Knowledge of processing and analysing spatial data sets and applying data science methods.
* Proficiency in Office 365, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel, is essential.
* Advanced interpersonal and communication skills are essential, with the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
* Consistency and thoroughness in checking and preparing data, as well as in daily tasks, are crucial.
* Ability to perform routine tasks, as well as engage in research and development to drive projects forward.
