I am recruiting for an experienced Freelance Works Manager to join a reputable sub-contractor, supporting the delivery of a major highways and infrastructure project in the Wakefield area. The works form part of a Roundabout upgrade, delivered under a larger, ongoing infrastructure improvements Framework.
The successful candidate will play a key role in managing on-site operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of the civil works package – including earthworks, drainage, kerbing, surfacing, and associated structures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Daily supervision and coordination of site operations for the roundabout works package.
* Manage labour, plant, and subcontractor activities to meet programme and quality targets.
* Ensure site compliance with HSEQ standards, RAMS, and permit systems.
* Liaise closely with Main Contractors site management, the client team, and stakeholders.
* Maintain accurate site records, reporting progress, resource usage, and issues.
* Support the delivery of temporary works, traffic management, and logistics planning.
REQUIREMENT
* Proven background as a Works Manager, General Foreman on highways / civils projects.
* Experience managing road construction, drainage, and roundabout schemes.
* CSCS, SMSTS (or SSSTS) and First Aid required.
* Excellent understanding of safety, quality, and temporary works procedures.
* Strong communication and coordination skills across multi-disciplinary teams.
* Ability to work autonomously under a main contractor environment.
