The Department of Urology at University College Hospital is looking to recruit a motivated and dedicated Registrar for a 10-month fixed term post as maternity cover. The Doctor will rotate through 3 subspecialities in Urology, where they will gain experience and training with the superficial bladder cancer, functional and reconstructive and general urology/stones team. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring excellent care for patients under the care of the department.
The successful candidate will be joining the largest and most prestigious Urological Department in the UK. We are a highly specialist department seeing referrals from across the UK and abroad as well as being a centre for excellence and research.
The post holder will provide a safe and effective service for patients under the supervision of the Consultant Urologist. The doctor will also be allocated an educational supervisor during their post to support them with their training. They will undertake theatre lists, clinics and other clinical activities. The post holder will lead on the management of inpatients and undertake on-call for the department as required.
Main duties of the job
• The Registrar will have primary charge of all patients admitted to the service and the day to day care of the patients.
• There are regular clinics at which the Registrar will have the opportunity to see new patients, patients recently discharged from the ward and also patients who are under ongoing follow up.
• Prescribe drugs and diets for both inpatients and outpatients.
• Urology admissions frequently arise from trauma and the Registrar will be expected to liaise closely with the full range of multi-disciplinary teams involved in their care. Attendance and support for the weekly multi-disciplinary team meeting will be a requirement of the role.
• The Registrar will also be expected to take part in and present audit and research projects.
• The Registrar will also be expected to take part in teaching other staff, and undergraduate and postgraduate students.
