Technical Architect – Nottingham (Hybrid)
Up to £70,000 + Benefits
Let's be clear — this isn't a pure "sit in the ivory tower" architect role.
This is hands-on. It's technical. It's commercial. And it sits right at the heart of shaping digital transport solutions that impact millions of journeys.
Here's the deal.
This role pulls together the core activities of a BA — discovery, analysis, stakeholder engagement — and stretches them into the bigger picture of solution architecture. You'll be designing, building, and costing enterprise-scale transport systems that combine:
* Hardware
– on-vehicle tech that moves with trains, trams, and buses
* Software
– platforms that deliver insights, experiences, and reporting
* Infrastructure
– cloud and on-prem, integrated into complex global environments
Except in this case, the "on-prem" is literally mobile. And the scope is huge — from tailored SME deployments to multi-million-pound solutions for Transport for London, Manchester, or New York.
What makes this role different
* You'll still do the BA work: workshops, requirement gathering, functional specs, stakeholder alignment.
* But you'll also architect the full end-to-end solution: hardware, software, connectivity, and data integration.
* You'll help shape bid responses and commercial proposals, building the business cases and cost models that win projects.
* You'll sit at the intersection of tech + business, turning ideas into designs, designs into bids, and bids into delivered solutions.
With an in-house LLM already handling much of the documentation and analysis, your focus is on value:
* Defining what the client actually needs
* Designing how the pieces fit together
* Building commercial models that make sense
* Driving delivery with international engineering, product, and project teams
What you'll do
* Translate business requirements into solution designs across hardware, software, and infrastructure layers
* Define integration points, system architecture, and data flows
* Create functional and non-functional specifications to guide development teams
* Build commercial business cases, costings, and bid content for UK and international clients
* Partner with architects, engineers, and product managers to deliver scalable solutions
* Represent the solutions team in client meetings, workshops, and tenders
* Contribute to testing, implementation, and performance reviews
* Stay close to emerging tech trends in transport, data, and AI — shaping how they're embedded into solutions
What you'll bring
* Experience as a Technical Architect, Solution Designer, or BA with a strong technical edge
* The ability to bridge business, technical, and commercial conversations
* A background that covers software, hardware, connectivity, or infrastructure (you don't need all, but you should be comfortable talking across the stack)
* Strong stakeholder management with senior and international clients
* Skills in tools such as SQL, JIRA, Confluence, Power BI, Tableau, BPMN, or similar
* A commercial mindset — able to think in terms of cost, value, and ROI as well as technology
What's in it for you
* Salary up to £70,000 + benefits
* International travel opportunities
* Modern Nottingham HQ with hybrid working
* High-quality product and technology training
* A collaborative team environment with global reach
* Clear growth path in a sector that's about to explode with digital transformation
