Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two full timeTeam Leader's to join Emergency Social Work Services. South Lanarkshire Council Social Work Department's Emergency Social Work Service (ESWS) became operational on 31 March 2009. ESWS work 365 days a year covering 128.5 hours per week. Local office work 250 days a year and cover 39.5 hours per week.

The organisation and structure of the Emergency Social Work Service was developed to provide an improved level of service to ESWS users in South Lanarkshire Council. The service is more responsive to service users' needs and provide quicker, clearer, more consistent and more appropriate pathways to services, supports and interventions.

The Team Leader will work over a three week shift rota and be expected to work weekends and public holidays dependent on your rota. As the Team Leader at Emergency Social Work Service, you will have oversight of shift delivery aligned to the wider delivery of Social Work services in South Lanarkshire. This will include line management social work assistants as well as senior management on-call responsibility between the hours of 01.45hrs and 08.45hrs (weekdays) and 01.45hrs and 07.45hrs (Weekends). Emergency Social Work Service must maintain strong links with daytime Social Work services and therefore the Team Leader role will include certain tasks/duties to ensure strong working links between Emergency Social Work and locality Social Work offices.


What will you be doing?

The candidate will join a well-established Social Work team in a management role. You will be responsible for day-to-day decisions during the out of hours period with the central objective being to ensure that the service is responsive to wide variations of referrals. The central objective to his responsibility will be to contribute towards the safety of individuals, families and communities. The role requires a strong focus on partnership working, primarily with Police and Health colleagues but also with various other agencies. The operations manager should have a sound knowledge of the legislative and policy base which guides and underpins statutory Social Work Services.


About You

The successful candidate should be registered with the SSSC and be qualified to degree/diploma level in Social Work and have an interest and commitment in all areas of Social Work delivery. Experience of managing and leading teams including the provision of supervision and management of performance is an essential criterion for this role whilst having experience in managing Social Work delivery within the public protection arena is essential also. The candidate should be able to demonstrate leadership skills and be flexible to the needs of the service. Being able to prioritise work is a key aspect of the role, particularly when leading a small team. The candidate will also be a committed team player who is enthusiastic about leading the service as well as working collaboratively with other social work leaders and partner agencies.

The successful candidate should have a full UK driving licence.
