Monarch Education is seeking to appoint a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Trowbridge. This is a full-time position required to start as soon as possible (ASAP).
The school is looking for a versatile and compassionate Teaching Assistant with experience supporting a small groups of pupils in Key Stage 3, and a strong understanding of working with children with additional learning needs.
About The Role
As a Full-Time Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development the pupils. A significant part of your role will involve providing tailored support to encourage a positive and supportive learning environment. Your responsibilities will include:
* Classroom Support:
o Working alongside the class teacher to support the delivery of lessons
o Assisting with classroom organisation, preparing resources, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
o Supporting the teacher with managing classroom behaviour.
* Supporting Pupils with SEND:
o Providing 1:1 support to individual pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), which may include but is not limited to: Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
o Leading or assisting with small group interventions to support pupils' specific learning needs, including literacy and numeracy support.
o Implementing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or support plans, adapting strategies to meet individual pupil needs.
o Monitoring and recording pupil progress against their targets and contributing to review meetings.
* Supporting Learning and Development:
o Supporting pupils' engagement in learning activities, encouraging independence and participation.
o Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
o Providing emotional support and promoting positive social interactions among pupils.
* Collaboration and Communication:
o Working effectively as part of the school team, collaborating with teachers, the SENDCo, and other support staff.
o Communicating relevant information about pupil progress and well-being to the class teacher and SENDCo.
o Potentially liaising with parents/carers under the direction of the class teacher or SENDCo.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Teaching Assistant with experience in a secondary school setting and a strong understanding of supporting pupils with SEND. The ideal candidate will possess:
* Experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school, ideally across Key Stages 3 and 4
* Proven experience and understanding of supporting pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
* A patient, nurturing, and understanding approach to working with children.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
* The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
* Resilience and the ability to adapt to different classroom environments and pupil needs.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
* Availability to work full-time, Monday to Friday during term time.
Qualifications
* Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3) or demonstrable equivalent experience is highly desirable.
* Training or professional development related to supporting pupils with specific SEND is advantageous.
