Overview
This Project Manager role sits within the Model Management & Operations Team, part of Retail Credit Risk Analytics in the UK Wealth and Personal Banking (WPB) Risk organisation. Reporting to the Head of Model Management, the role is responsible for driving efficient model risk management processes and ensuring the scalable maintenance of models used for lending decisions and Basel regulatory reporting.
The role has a strong focus on delivering analytics and transformation initiatives that embed new regulatory requirements (including SS1/23) while streamlining processes, improving operating efficiency, and reducing manual overhead across model management activities.
In addition, the role provides informal leadership, including prioritisation of work and issue escalation, for analysts in the UK and the Global Analytics Centre (India), with a focus on optimising team productivity and resource utilisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead project management across business, IT, and regulatory transformation initiatives, with a clear focus on driving delivery efficiency and reducing duplication of effort.
* Actively shape and influence team planning, working closely with stakeholders and sponsors to prioritise high-value activities, challenge inefficiencies, and optimise delivery timelines.
* Lead analytics for model risk management, including model monitoring, model changes, data quality reporting, and deep-dive assessments for UK WPB Decision and Basel models, ensuring standardised, scalable, and streamlined processes.
* Identify and implement opportunities to automate, simplify, and enhance model management workflows, improving turnaround times and consistency of outputs.
* Present model performance and model risk status to senior stakeholders in UK and global forums, clearly articulating efficiency gains, process improvements, and risk reduction.
* Drive continuous improvement by leveraging modern technologies and innovative solutions to enhance reporting, reduce manual intervention, and increase transparency.
* Support the team’s vision and strategy by working with senior leaders to embed a culture of efficiency, accountability, and continuous optimisation.
Requirements
* Proven experience in model management, including monitoring, validation, and model issue management, with a track record of improving processes and delivering efficiencies.
* Strong understanding of retail credit products (e.g., credit cards, mortgages, loans, overdrafts) and how statistical models and data-driven rules are applied, with the ability to identify opportunities for optimisation across the model lifecycle.
* Background in Credit/Risk/Analytics, ideally within Basel/regulatory modelling or model management, with exposure to transformation or process improvement initiatives.
* Degree-level education (preferably in a numerate discipline).
* Working knowledge of tools such as SAS, SQL, Python, Microsoft Office, and Qlik Sense, with experience using these to automate processes and improve efficiency.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex topics and highlight efficiency opportunities to senior stakeholders.
