The Fabric Production Assistant at River Island plays a key role in managing the critical path process for RI Production fabric, overseeing cloth orders from initiation to receipt. The role is essential to the RI Production team for managing the fabric critical path, ensuring fabrics are fit for purpose, and maintaining compliance and quality standards across fabrics.
Responsibilities:
1. Manage fabric ordering process; collate and review fabric specifications and base test reports from mills, action lab-dips and strike-offs on new fabric bases. Highlight technical fabric risks with the end product in mind.
2. Efficiently raise, amend, and manage bulk orders, reviewing order confirmations.
3. Manage bulk lead times and critical path through production, including testing and approvals. Liaise with internal stakeholders such as shipping, supply chain, distribution, and buying to ensure fabric requirements are met on time and issues are resolved.
4. Manage testing processes on the River Island testing platform, create materials and top sheets, and liaise with the Garment Technologist for testing approval and care instructions.
5. Negotiate solutions to fabric issues such as delays, shortages, faults, colour rejections, and contamination.
Skills:
1. Good knowledge of fabrics, materials, and components.
2. Ability to interpret fabric testing reports with a commercial understanding of testing requirements based on the end product.
3. Experience working across multiple sourcing locations with supplier management skills.
4. Critical path management skills.
5. Collaborative, building good relations with peers and stakeholders.
6. Adaptability to change in line with business priorities.
7. Commercial awareness and decision-making skills.
8. Strong Excel skills are essential.
