We are seeking to recruit a forward thinking and dynamic Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) to join our service as part of the Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT).
You'll be working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team in the provision of care, therapeutic interventions, and treatment to Thames Valley Forensic Services users, with a specific focus on Berkshire, ensuring the highest standards of care are provided
Although you'll be covering the Berkshire patch, our office is based in Oxford, so we can offer hybrid working - the post allows working from the office and home.
*Please note, that this role attracts an RSU allowance of £1446 per annum/pro-rata*
Main duties of the job
We have been implementing a new model to support services users with complex mental health challenges and forensic histories, so this is an exciting time to join our team. We're supportive, flexible and there is a strong focus on staff development - we want to support you in developing your clinical skills and expertise.
You will ensure that services to patients and carers are delivered and developed according to Trust and Social and Healthcare departmental policies.
Assisting patients to meet their activities of daily living and helping them to attain their optimum functional level, you will play a vital role in crisis intervention and be a link figure to the multi-disciplinary team operating in the Forensic Service.
You will need to demonstrate a high level of personal skill and expertise in the delivery of care through individual and group work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Some of the duties/responsibilities include
12. Physical Health Skills – Knowledge of common physical health conditions and their management, and an ability to monitor physical health conditions and wellbeing
13. Knowledge of medications and their effects, including side effects and the management of side effects. Maintain the safe custody and control of medication. Administer and monitor medication prescribed to service users. Discuss medication with service user and carers and offer information and advice.
14. Psycho-educational family approaches.
15. Work with patients who exhibit negative symptoms such as poor motivation

Knowledge and Experience Requirements
Essential criteria
16. Substantial amount of relevant post-qualifying experience in Mental Health Nursing in a mental health setting
17. RMN experience with vulnerable and difficult to engage adults
18. Good working knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983) and Code of Practice, the Mental Capacity Act (2005), and other legislation
19. •Knowledge of safeguarding practice and procedures in relation to vulnerable adults and children sufficient to comply with legislation and procedures as they relate to working with mentally disordered offenders.

Further Training or Job Related Aptitude and Skills

22. Excellent skills in assessment and formulation
23. Excellent skills in care planning and case management
24. Significant experience and competence in identifying and assessing risk in complex situations
25. Confidence to exercise autonomous professional judgement in accordance with the expectations of NMC registration and appropriate accountability including in the role of Appropriate Adult
26. An excellent capacity to manage sensitive information within appropriate boundaries of confidentiality in a risk management context
Desirable criteria
27. An understanding of the disadvantages experienced by people with mental health problems in society
Communication & Relationship Skills
Essential criteria
28. An ability to engage with service users and carers who may be resistant to care
29. An ability to use empathy when dealing with a difficult to manage service user
30. Excellent skills in clear and concise report writing
31. Sophisticated interviewing and assessment skills
Desirable criteria
32. Experience and confidence in undertaking the role of social supervisor of conditionally discharged patients subject to Ministry of Justice restrictions
33. Demonstrated ability to maintain relationships external to the organisation, to interface with other agencies and participate in processes such as MAPPA

34. Ability to travel including occasionally out of area when required

36. Willingness to carry out duties outside of ordinary office hours on a irregular basis
37. All new starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process, aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale
38. Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
