Affinity Water are looking for an Operations Scientist to join our Asset Directorate.
Join the team to ensure the continuous supply of wholesome drinking water for the benefit of our communities. We will do this through our subject matter experts, delivering our regulatory requirements, water quality operations, audit and fittings inspection programmes to ensure that we annually achieve the best possible water quality results and identify and deliver process improvements for Water Quality Services
Responsibilities
1. Provide day to day water quality support to Capital Delivery teams.
2. Undertake water quality audits across Capital Delivery projects, both infra and non infra.
3. Provide training to internal and external colleagues regarding water quality matters.
4. Implement and monitor recommendations from DWI.
5. Risks relating to water quality are identified and managed aligned with business strategies and regulatory requirements.
6. Ensure water quality procedures related to water quality are up to date, understood and followed.
7. Support in the design, planning, build and implementation of “new pathway” projects.
8. Review and authorise risk assessments and method statements.
9. Authorise the introduction into supply of new infrastructure.
10. Prepare, interpret and report water quality data.
11. Ensure appropriate actions are taken following sample failures or unusual results.
What you need
12. A recognised science degree, higher national certificate or equivalent qualification ideally in chemistry or biology or any other associated science. Chartership or a plan to become charted is desirable.
13. A good understanding of drinking water regulation and water quality standards are essential.
14. A background in the water industry and an understanding of how investment plans are developed would be advantageous.
15. An understanding of Asset Management and a commitment to undertake a qualification in this field, such as IAM certification.
16. Skills to develop a high-quality stakeholder management and engagement plan to communicate effectively.
17. Practiced at risk management to identify, quantify, control and monitor significant business risk.
18. Skilled at regulatory report writing, data management, process mapping and general IT skills.
