Salary for part time hours of 22.5 hours per week would be£22,182 to £26,275 per annum.

Main duties of the job

This is an excellent opportunity to join our Therapies team.The role is Senior Physiotherapist inan adult hospice which will expand your skills and knowledge, allow you toreally innovate in your practice and improve your communication skills, whilsthelping people manage life-limiting illnesses as part of the multi-professionalteam.

We are looking to recruit a fullyexperienced Band 6 Senior Physiotherapist to joint lead and advance ourPhysiotherapy team. The post holder willsupport people under our care within our ward, the community and onsite at the Hospice within our offer of one to one appointments and groups.

You should be registered with the HCPCand have excellent post registration experience of supporting people affectedby life-limiting and complex conditions.

We provide onsite clinical services within a modern, personal & friendly 18-bedded Ward, as well as Specialist Community Crisis Support Service, Hospice at Home Service & Specialist Day Therapy Service. We also have the hospice Pepperell Education Centre that has an excellent reputation for delivering high quality education programmes and study days.

Job responsibilities

JOB TITLE: Senior Physiotherapist

GRADE: Hospice Band 6a

HOURS OFDUTY:Part-time hours, up to 22.5 hours per week

REPORTS TO: Therapies Manager

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

The Therapies Team, community team, hospice Ward, the hospice multi-professional team, all staff paid and voluntary,people in our care and their loved ones and primary care teams.

RESPONSIBLE FOR

Physiotherapystudents when on placement.

JOBSUMMARY

* To undertakespecialist physiotherapy assessment and design management programs for people presenting with complex problems in the field of palliative care, maintainingrecords as an autonomous practitioner.
* To support andparticipate in the planning and ongoing service development of thephysiotherapy service, working with the Therapies Manager.
* To promote the keyvalues of specialist palliative care for people in our care and their loved ones,ensuring equitable access to the physiotherapy service.
* To act as a resourcefor palliative care physiotherapy and to provide advice, education and supportto the other members of the Therapies Team, wider multi-professional hospiceteam and other health care professionals.
* To keep up to datewith developments in palliative care physiotherapy and maintain clinicalpractice and procedures in line with current best practice and the latestresearch outcomes, and monitor standards of care as outlined by the TherapiesManager.
* To contribute tolocal, regional and national networks & forums for specialist palliativecare physiotherapy as indicated.
* To deputise for TherapiesManager as required.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.To be professionallyand legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your workincluding the management of people in your care.

2.To develop andmaintain communication with people about difficult matters and/or indifficult situations.

3.To have anunderstanding of the importance of multi-professional team-working and theability to promote it within the organisation.

4.To have anunderstanding of the process and importance of sensitive change management.

5.To support the TherapiesManager to ensure a cohesive, balanced and efficient service delivery.

6.To contribute to theimprovement of the physiotherapy service.

7.To participateeffectively in multi-professional meetings and exchange of information.

8.To takeresponsibility for own personal and professional development which will bemonitored in management supervision sessions and through the annual appraisalsystem.

9.To represent thephysiotherapy service, as appropriate, both internally & externally.

10.To contribute tolocal, regional and national networks/ forums for specialist palliative careas required.

11.To maintain hospiceinformation systems as required by the organisation.

12.To take on extraresponsibilities and duties, where appropriate, when the Therapies Manager isunavailable.

13.To support andactively participate as a member of the physiotherapy team by attending teammeetings, training and supervision of other team members as appropriate.

PHYSIOTHERAPYPRACTICE

1.To be responsiblefor caseload/workload and be an active participant in the physiotherapy team.

2.To organise andmanage self & caseload within the hours specified.

3.To plan, deliver andevaluate physiotherapy care to address the complex health and wellbeingneeds people in our care.

4.To develop, monitorand review relevant treatment plans.

5.To plan, deliver andevaluate interventions and/or treatments appropriate to people with palliative care needs.

6.To discuss progressand treatment with the people in our care & their loved ones, and teach them therapy techniques ifappropriate.

7.To keep clearrecords within the multi-disciplinary notes and on iCare.

8.To ensure physiotherapyinput at the hospice Ward and community team meetings and facilitate theclinical discussion of people in our care.

9.To support othermembers of the Physiotherapy team as required

10.To participate inaudit, outcome and quality measuring of the physiotherapy service asrequired.

11.To be responsiblefor the maintenance and safety of all physiotherapy equipment.

COMMUNICATION

1. Work proactively to maintain effective communication networks withall the departments within the hospice to maintain a seamless delivery ofphysiotherapy services.

2. Will liaise with other professionals on behalf of the physiotherapyteam.

3. Will liaise with primary care teams to improve palliative care forpeople or individuals who access our services in the community.

4. Will liaise with other services to ensure continuity of care.

1.Act as an ambassadorfor the hospice at functions as required

2.To participate inthe life of the hospice

3.To assist in tasksthat affect the whole hospice, for example reviewing/designing newinformation booklets.

EDUCATION

1.Act as a resourcefor members of other hospice teams.

2.Participate in thehospice in-house educational programmes and the in-service induction andtraining of other professionals and volunteers as required.

3.Participate in thehospice educational programmes for external participants as required.

4.To provide effectiveplacements for physiotherapy students undertaking their professionaltraining.

5.To participate inthe mandatory training program.

QUALITYASSURANCE

1.Ensure the continuedhigh quality service of the physiotherapy department by appropriateaudit and standards

2.Participate inresearch, audit and evaluation.

3.Support the TherapiesManager in quality management issues as they arise.

PROFESSIONALRESPONSIBILITIES

1.To act within theCodes of Practice as set by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, andHealthcare Professionals Council.

2.To adhere to thepolicies and conditions of service of Saint Francis Hospice relating tosickness and absence, conduct, Health and Safety, Data Protection and any othersthat are relevant.

4.To takeresponsibility for own professional and personal development which will bemonitored in management supervision sessions and in the yearly appraisal.

5.To keep up-to-datewith the developments within physiotherapy and in particular in the field ofpalliative care.

Person Specification


Other Requirements

* Demonstrates insight into own stressors and coping mechanisms.
* The post holder will be required to travel throughout an operational area. Where this is undertaken by car, the post holder must hold a current, valid driving licence with insurance cover for business purposes.


Qualifications

* Diploma/degree in physiotherapy.
* Registered with the Healthcare Professionals Council.
* Evidence of relevant Continued Professional Development (CPD).
* Registered Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.


Experience

* Broad physiotherapy experience at a band 6 level.
* Demonstrates experience in management of complex patients.
* Effective communication skills both written and verbal.
* Demonstrates appropriate working knowledge of confidentiality issues.
* Understands the role of physiotherapy in a palliative care setting.
* Knowledge of risk management and clinical governance issues.
* Awareness of own competency level and how to seek appropriate help.
* Experience of community physiotherapy.
* Experience of teaching/facilitating others.
* An understanding of the importance of multi-professional team-working and the ability to promote it within the organisation.
* To be innovative, motivated and enthusiastic.
* To be flexible and adaptable.
* Ability to operate computer systems.
* Has experience of working in a specialist palliative care team & awareness of current issues within palliative care physiotherapy.
* Ability to provide clinical supervision to physiotherapy students.
