Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 stand alone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 15 of our primary schools and 2 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and inspirational professional who will contribute effectively to this important service area and be part of the schools continuing improvement journey. The right individual will possess strong people, operational and strategic management skills and have the necessary experience and knowledge to work in our behaviour and inclusion area including ensuring we take a fully integrated approach to supporting the development of young people in the base and in mainstream settings. The right individual will have plenty of opportunities for career long professional learning and will be part of a large, experienced and ambitious Support for Learning team.
We have a dedicated classroom base for students within the SEBN category or who require support for a variety reasons including neuro-diversity. This space is designed to offer continuity in the learner experience to maximise outcomes for learners, including attending mainstream classes where appropriate.
Work within the wider curriculum will be aimed to support personal growth, develop inter-personal skills and include tailored intervention to improve behaviour and emotional regulation.
The teacher must be responsive, adaptive and committed to a range of young people\'s needs across the working week and work collaboratively with other learning support staff.

Responsibilities
* Contribute to the behaviour and inclusion area with a fully integrated approach to supporting development of young people in base and mainstream settings.

* Support personal growth, interpersonal skills and provide tailored interventions to improve behaviour and emotional regulation within the wider curriculum.
* Be responsive, adaptive and collaborative with other learning support staff across the working week.

* Conditional offer of employment based on satisfactory completion of pre-employment requirements (medical screening, two written references, one from your most recent/current employer, verification of original qualifications and eligibility to work in the United Kingdom).
* Registration with the General Teaching Council and a satisfactory PVG check for Regulated Work with Children are essential.
* General Teaching Council Scotland: Teachers applying for permanent posts should be fully registered with GTCS. For information on registration visit www.gtcs.org.uk.
* Regulated Work with Children: This post is Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. It is an offence to apply if barred from working with children. Successful candidates require a PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children, or a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment. Costs are met by you and may be deducted from salary as described in accompanying notice.
