Overview

We are looking for an experienced Healthcare Assistant for 21.5 hours per week, to join our team to carry out all aspects of Healthcare Assistant care, with potential to develop skills in line with the needs of the business and your personal interests. As a HCA, you will be responsible for providing high-quality and compassionate care to our patients and supporting the wider clinical team.


Job responsibilities / Principal Duties

* Under indirect supervision, assist in the delivery of primary health care interventions and care effectively and efficiently.
* Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.
* Monitors and orders stock levels and equipment.
* Responsible for the security, care and maintenance of equipment ensuring standards of infection control and safety are maintained.
* Act as chaperone as required/instructed.
* Maintenance of accurate and legible patient records in line with organisational requirements, including contemporary paper records and electronic patient record system.
* Ensure that confidentiality, privacy, dignity, needs and beliefs of patients are maintained in line with organisational policy.
* Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary general practice team and other healthcare professionals to promote integrated pathways of care to meet patient needs.
* Communicate effectively with patients, carers and all members of the MDT.
* Prioritise and complete daily work effectively.
* Identify and report any complaints or incidents to the Lead Nurse or Practice Manager in accordance with organisational policy and expected professional practice.
* Ensure clinical practice is safe and within the boundaries of competence; acknowledge limitations.


Clinical care delivery — Working Within Guidelines And Protocols Undertake And Record

* Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for laboratory analysis
* Temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiratory rate
* Weight, height, waist circumference and Body Mass Index
* ECGs
* Near patient testing e.g. blood glucose and INR
* Perform chaperoning duties as requested
* Obtain venous blood samples from individuals for investigation if required
* Administer selected vaccines in accordance with the national schedule, legal authorisation and competency training
* Administer medications by injection with the appropriate legal authorisation
* Undertake vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
* Care for wounds and apply dressings after initial assessment by a registered nurse
* Remove wound closure materials including sutures, clips and staples
* Assist clinicians carrying out minor surgical procedures including sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
* Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions
* Assist in the assessment and surveillance of patients’ health and well-being
* Undertake specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
* Help raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
* Assist with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being


Qualifications


Essential

* English and Maths GCSE level C and above (new grade 4 and above) or equivalent qualification
* Care Certificate Award
* Qualified to NVQ level 2 Healthcare
* Other recognised form of educational attainment


Desirable

* Qualified to NVQ level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support
* Extensive CPD
* Welsh speaker


Experience

* Essential: Ideally at least 2 years experience working in general practice
