This post is based in the Resource Management Dashboard team, where we build high quality dashboards for use across the whole Department.
As a data engineer you will use your SQL expertise to build the data model and extract, load and transform routines to process corporate data commercial, finance, HR, etc.
You will be a highly motivated self-starter who will take ownership of the time you spend with us and truly make a difference, inspiring others to achieve great things too.
Job description
The successful candidate will be required to lead the data engineering strand for the Resource Management Dashboard.
You will be expected to work independently, and as a part of a team, to:
1. Develop the data engineering in MS SQL Server
2. Work closely with our Power BI developers on design and requirements
3. Support the testing of any developments
4. Optimise data structures, code and processes improve system performance
5. Work in an agile, user-oriented way using Azure DevOps
6. Share knowledge and seek advice when necessary
7. Rapidly respond to short-term problems in your own area and across the wider team

8. Building and managing databases in Azure SQL Server
9. Creating and amending powerful stored procedures and functions
10. Processing and shaping data into summarised values
11. Building for performance at scale
12. Data table relationship management best practices
13. Getting the most of SQL Server data and structures
Desirable Skills
14. Working with Azure Data Factory and Azure Analytical Services.

Travel to your primary office location will not be paid for by DfE, but costs for travel to an office which is not your main location will be covered.
