Youth Justice Case Manager
Location: Merseyside
Pay rate: £27.35 per hour
Our client has opportunities for a Youth Justice Case Manager. In this role, you will be part of the local authority’s Youth Justice Service, working in partnership with other services. You will be committed to working collaboratively to help children thrive and stay safe. Your responsibilities will include supporting the prevention of children entering the criminal justice system, and when they do, helping them learn, make positive changes, and build a promising future.
You will ensure children are seen as children first, listen to them, understand their individual needs, and provide the best opportunities for success by leveraging local partnerships. Your duties will include safeguarding, promoting the welfare of children and young people, managing risks, and ensuring public safety and proper sentence management, all while maintaining the reputation of the Department and Council.
You will focus on performance, policies, and procedures, working closely with Service Improvement Leads and responding to key practice areas:
* Collaborating with the workforce to influence cultural and practice shifts, utilizing performance data to improve service quality.
* Working with partner agencies to foster a culture of ambition and continuous improvement.
* Using the voices of those with lived experience to inform service development.
* Supporting colleagues and teams to drive best practices.
* Adapting to new areas of practice and continuously developing your knowledge to facilitate change.
This role is ideal if you:
* Are passionate about helping young people, acting as both a mentor and authority figure.
* Can connect with children and young people from diverse backgrounds, including those with serious crimes, challenging environments, or mental health issues.
Working with children in custody can be challenging. You’ll need to make quick, effective decisions, exercise patience, and resilience. Responsibilities include ensuring safety, supporting day-to-day activities, and understanding individual circumstances in complex situations. Training will be provided to support your development in these areas.
Ideal candidates will be:
* Registered Social Workers with Social Work England.
* Holding SW, CSS, DipSW, or a Social Work Degree, with a creative, flexible, and forward-thinking approach.
* Experienced in social services or voluntary agencies.
* Dedicated to continuous improvement for better outcomes.
* Excellent mediators and negotiators.
* Skilled at building meaningful relationships with children and families.
* Experienced in multi-disciplinary, interagency work.
* Knowledgeable about relevant legislation.
* Having 4+ years of qualified experience.
In this role, you will:
* Assess risks, protection, and social care needs.
* Manage an agreed caseload.
* Use specialist communication skills for optimal outcomes.
* Develop individual care plans respecting diversity and dignity.
* Support the development of unqualified staff and students.
