Contract type: Variable Hours - Permanent

Location: Stockton-on-Tees, Durham International Study Centre

Salary: up to £ 33.57 per hour

The purpose of the role is to deliver highly effective modules at International Foundation Year (Pre-Undergraduate or Level 3 Equivalent) level. Teaching sessions will be predominantly face to face with some online teaching also required. The Arts and Humanities modules at the centre include; English Literature; Extended Project; Geography; Introduction to Liberal Arts; Introduction to Ancient History; and Introduction to Modern History. Ideally, we are seeking a candidate with at least some English Literature expertise.
You will join a team of Arts and Humanities tutors to deliver some of the above modules.


ABOUT THE ROLE
1. Delivering modules (face-to-face and occasionally online) to international students studying on programmes offered by the Centre and assisting with the continued development of modules.
2. Developing modules from module specifications. This will include schemes of learning along with appropriate development of learning resources.
3. Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking and providing feedback to students.
4. Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Centre’s virtual learning environment (VLE). Facilitating student access to same.
5. Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process
6. Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performance
7. Providing, when/if required, academic learning support to a small number of students
8. Participating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff.
9. Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.
10. Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.
11. Arranging and supporting visits to places of interest linked to subject.

ABOUT YOU
12. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject (essential)
13. A recognised teaching qualification (desirable)
14. A Master’s degree or equivalent in a related subject area (desirable)
15. Fluent spoken and written English (essential)
16. Teaching experience delivering English Literature and other arts and humanities programmes within a Sixth Form, Further Education or Higher Education context
17. Experience of working with international students both online and face-to-face. (Desirable)
18. Competence in teaching and administrative IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, etc)
19. Confident practitioner online and face to face
20. Able to master a wide range of online teaching software
21. A student-centred approach
22. Strong record-keeping skills
23. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
24. Flexibility
25. Ability to work under pressure to deadlines
26. Strong sense of teamwork
