Overview
Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) are seeking a Consultant Obstetrician Clinical Lead to help in the implementation of the Strategic Perinatal Workforce Plan, influencing transformative change and improvement to the multidisciplinary workforce who deliver perinatal services across NHS Wales.
This position ensures the team has the appropriate clinical expertise to implement the actions within the plan in collaboration with colleagues and partners. Sessional commitment of one session per week until 31 March 2026 is required to deliver HEIW's IMTP 25/26 requirements. The successful candidate will work as part of the Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Transformation Team and will liaise closely with the Medical Directorate.
This post is offered as a secondment opportunity only. You must have your line manager's approval before applying. The secondment is for a fixed period but may be extended or made permanent subject to funding and business requirements. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; English and/or Welsh speakers are welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
* Act as the medical workforce subject matter expert for the implementation of the plan as required.
* Autonomous management and successful delivery of actions as delegated by the Associate Director of Nursing and Midwifery, including maintaining project controls, risk management and related activities.
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential: Registered professional with the GMC with a license to practice and on the Specialist Register; Currently practicing as a consultant within the NHS; Knowledge of the current Maternity and Neonatal workforce of NHS Wales; Knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling projects.
Experience
Essential: Expertise and recent experience in obstetrics; Experience of successful team working; Experience of leading workforce development, education or training with knowledge of current education and training pathways in Maternity and Neonatal Services.
Skills and Attributes
Essential: Excellent written and verbal communication; Interpersonal skills to build relationships at all levels; Proven ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships; Ability to plan and prioritise workload; Proficient in use of standard IT packages (e.g., Microsoft Office).
