The Selkirk Cogeneration Station is a 446-megawatt natural gas-fired facility located in Selkirk, New York. Owned by Gate City Capital and operated by NAES Corporation, the plant features three GE 7EA combustion turbines, one steam turbine, and four auxiliary boilers to support combined heat and power generation. The facility plays a key role in providing both electricity and thermal energy to the surrounding region with high efficiency and reliability.

Opportunity Summary

The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) - Assistant Plant Manager at Selkirk Cogeneration Station plays a critical role in supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of this 446 MW natural gas-fired facility. This position blends strategic leadership with hands-on oversight of plant operations, maintenance, and compliance, ensuring alignment with the O&M agreement and fostering workforce development. The successful candidate will help optimize performance, promote a strong safety culture, and engage effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Your scope of responsibility as O&M - Assistant Plant Manager includes the following primary functions:

Strategic Plant Management Support

* Support the administration of plant programs related to safety, operations, maintenance, administration, training, chemistry, and environmental compliance to ensure effective and reliable plant performance.
* Assist in the coordination and execution of planned and unplanned outages, contributing to schedule optimization, cost control, and performance improvement.
* Aid in the implementation of provisions outlined in the O&M agreement and other project-related contracts, helping to ensure facility adherence and performance expectations.
* Contribute to the development and execution of staffing, training, and qualification initiatives to ensure personnel readiness and alignment with plant goals.
* Foster a culture of safety awareness by supporting safety initiatives, identifying potential hazards, and promoting team accountability in safety practices.
* Monitor environmental compliance efforts and assist in the preparation and review of regulatory reports and documentation as required.
* Collaborate with the Plant Manager and department leads in tracking and managing plant expenditures, supporting budget development, forecasting, and cost reporting processes.
* Participate in community engagement activities and support efforts to maintain a positive public image of the facility.
* Provide technical support to operations and maintenance personnel, assisting in troubleshooting and coordinating with vendors or external specialists when needed.
* Help review, update, and maintain plant policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure alignment with operational goals and industry standards.
* Demonstrate consistent, reliable attendance and availability to support around-the-clock plant operations as needed.

Operational Performance and Maintenance Leadership

* Oversee the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all power generation equipment, including turbines, boilers, and auxiliary systems, ensuring compliance with operating procedures and performance standards.
* Monitor plant performance metrics and analyze operational data to support decision-making, identify areas for improvement, and optimize plant output.
* Coordinate and prioritize maintenance activities to ensure timely completion of preventative and corrective tasks, minimizing downtime and extending equipment life.
* Assist in outage planning and execution, contributing to strategy development, resource coordination, and schedule adherence.
* Support environmental, health, and safety initiatives by promoting regulatory compliance, enforcing safety procedures, and participating in audits and incident reviews.
* Lead, mentor, and support plant personnel by overseeing daily work activities, conducting performance reviews, and promoting a culture of accountability and professional development.
* Collaborate with the Plant Manager on budgeting, procurement, and resource planning to align plant operations with financial and strategic goals.
* Contribute to procedure development and documentation updates to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with industry best practices.
* Carry out additional tasks and assignments at the direction of the Plant Manager or senior leadership.

* Involve all NAES teammates in these activities.

* Conduct safety observation tours of high-risk activities (e.g., confined space) to verify that employees are following safe practices, company procedures, and OSHA regulations.
* Hold one-on-one sessions with direct reports to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations, and coach safe behaviors.
* Respond to all safety-related incidents, including injuries, incidents, and near misses; write a report explaining what happened, identify the cause, and recommend corrective actions based on established business unit or division practices. Follow up as necessary to ensure corrective actions are taken.

Working Relationships

The O&M - Assistant Plant Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supervises the operations and maintenance personnel, fostering collaborative working relationships across all levels of the organization. This role also coordinates with vendors, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure seamless plant operations and compliance.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The O&M - Assistant Plant Manager works a standard Monday to Friday day shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required.

Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.

Compensation

This position offers an annual base salary ranging from $150,000 to $185,000 and includes eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

* Prior operations and maintenance management experience and/or experience as an Assistant Plant Manager at a natural gas-fired combined cycle power generation plant is strongly preferred.
* Extensive knowledge of business principles and operational practices in power generation facilities, with an emphasis on independent power producers.
* Demonstrated technical proficiency in plant operations and maintenance, providing hands-on support and effective problem-solving for operations and maintenance personnel.
* Proven ability to supervise technical, supervisory, and hourly personnel while fostering team development and accountability.
* Expertise in environmental management, regulatory compliance, and contract administration aligned with strategic plant management goals.
* Strong financial acumen in budgeting, forecasting, and cost control to efficiently manage plant expenditures.
* Thorough understanding of safety regulations, with a proven track record of promoting a proactive safety culture across all plant personnel.
