Job summary
Would you like to work in the Point of Care Testing (POCT) section of Pathology? The POCT team support HDFT clinical staff working in both the hospital and community. The work is varied and entails maintaining stock for POCT equipment, monitoring and troubleshooting instruments, training POCT users and monitoring competency, participating in all aspects of quality assurance including internal quality control and external quality assessment, conducting audits and use of various IT systems etc. The work would suit an enthusiastic person eager to learn. Some health care knowledge and/or experience is essential and further training will be given plus there are opportunities for development in the role.
Main duties of the job
This job will involve supporting the POCT Manager with all POCT tasks. This includes;
1. Organisation and delivery of training of HDFT (on site and off site) staff in the correct use of POCT equipment, including ensuring training meets the required standard for UKAS accreditation. Keeping POCT Users training records up to date - including the use of Excel.
2. Monitor POCT stock levels.
3. Perform all procedures required to monitor quality of instrumentation including internal quality control and external quality assessment.
4. Respond to and troubleshoot errors and record / investigate as required.
5. Updating the POCT documentation via Qpulse.
6. Entering Patient results onto the HIS via Lab Centre.
7. Regular participation in audit procedures.
8. Some travelling to community locations across Harrogate locality (valid driving license and access to a car are essential).
About us
The team is small and consists of the POCT Manager (job-share), 1 other part time assistant practitioners and this position. The field of POCT is growing and our Pathology department is one of a small number of NHS organisations to have achieved UKAS accreditation for their POCT services.

Criteria
Essential
9. oLevel 3 diploma in one of the following areas: Healthcare science, Administration / academic study or Information Technology or able to demonstrate equivalent level or relevant experience
10. oGood standard of general education to GCSE level (GCSE grade C / 4 or above in English, Maths) or equivalent
11. oExperience of working in a healthcare / laboratory setting
12. oExperience of audit
13. oCompetent user of computer software packages including Microsoft Word and Excel
14. oFull UK driving license and ability to work at off site locations as required.
Desirable
15. oIBMS level 1 Biomedical Science Support Staff certificate of achievement
16. oPrevious experience of Pathology or Point of Care Testing.
