What you'll be doing: In this varied role, you'll manage comprehensive payroll services whilst providing expert self-assessment support. Your typical day might include processing complex payrolls, calculating tax liabilities, preparing self-assessment returns, and advising on tax-efficient strategies. You'll be the go-to expert for all things payroll and personal tax, ensuring compliance while identifying opportunities to add value.
What we're looking for: You'll bring at least 2-3 years of hands-on experience in UK payroll and self-assessment, backed by solid accounting knowledge through qualification or experience. Your technical expertise in payroll software and HMRC systems will be complemented by your exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines without breaking a sweat.

Key Responsibilities
Payroll Management
* Process monthly/weekly payroll for multiple clients or internal employees ensuring accuracy and timeliness
* Process monthly/weekly CIS Submissions for contractors
* Completion of annual CIS reclaims
* Calculate PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions, and other statutory deductions
* Manage auto-enrolment pension schemes and maintain compliance with workplace pension regulations
* Process statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, and SAP
* Prepare and submit RTI returns to HMRC including FPS and EPS submissions
* Handle P45s, P60s, and P11D administration
* Manage payroll year-end procedures and reconciliations
* Respond to payroll queries from employees and resolve discrepancies
* Maintain accurate payroll records in compliance with data protection regulations
Self Assessment
* Prepare and submit self-assessment tax returns for individuals, sole traders, and partnerships
* Calculate tax liabilities and advise on payment schedules
* Identify tax planning opportunities and allowable deductions
* Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients to resolve queries
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of personal tax legislation and annual changes
* Provide guidance on tax-efficient strategies within current legislation
* Manage client deadlines and ensure timely submission of returns
Essential Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
* AAT Level 4 qualification or equivalent (minimum)
* Part-qualified or newly qualified ATT/CTA desirable
* Minimum 2-3 years' experience in UK payroll processing
* Proven experience preparing self-assessment tax returns
* Strong knowledge of UK tax legislation and HMRC procedures
Technical Skills
* Proficient in payroll software ( Brightpay & Moneysoft)
* Proficient in calculation of self-assessment taxes and National insurance calculations
* Understanding of statutory rules around self-assessment tax returns.
* Understanding of Auto enrolment rules and regulations
* Experience with accounting software and tax preparation software
* Understanding of RTI requirements and auto-enrolment regulations

Desirable Requirements
* Experience in practice environment
* Knowledge of CIS scheme and VAT returns
* Bookkeeping experience
* Familiarity with cloud-based accounting systems
* Familiarity with NRL Tax returns
* CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) qualification
* CTA/ATT qualification
