 
        
        Overview
Apprentices will be working alongside fully qualified MET technicians to be fully trained in preparing and painting repaired panels. The role is to identify damaged mechanical and electrical components on a damaged car/light commercial vehicle and remove and refit these components before and after body repair work has been carried out.
Responsibilities
 * Assessing a vehicle to establish the extent of damage
 * Remove and refit non-structural body panels and mechanical and electrical systems
 * Remove and refit any part relating to the vehicle, to the correct alignment
 * Remove, repair, and replace engine, gearbox, suspension, mechanical and electrical systems
 * Diagnose and fix faults within a vehicle management system (onboard computer) and associated electrical system
 * Apprentices will be required to achieve Certification in Refrigerant Handling (EC 842-2006)
 * Attend an approved college on block release to work towards and achieve the Certificate at Level 3 in Vehicle Damage Mechanical Electrical and Trim (MET)
 * A skills coach will visit at least every 28 days as part of a close support network to ensure that apprentices are both enjoying and succeeding in their course
Additional Responsibilities
 * Ability to undertake appropriate job preparation prior to commencing repair, e.g. disarming airbags, undertaking electrical safety precautions and conducting pre-repair diagnostics sweeps
 * Ability to interpret relevant technical data, specifications and methods to enable appropriate pre-preparation prior to work
 * Ability to remove, repair and replace Engine, gearbox, suspension, mechanical and electrical systems, related autonomous items from the vehicle safely (e.g. ABS units, safety restraint systems, Radar and Lidar components)
 * Ability to diagnose and fix faults within a vehicle management system (on board computer) and associated electrical system
 * Ability to identify and communicate supplementary parts where required
 * Ability to identify and operate the correct repair tools and equipment (e.g. Geometry Wheel Aligners, diagnostic hardware, torque wrenches) as part of the repair process
 * Ability to rebuild vehicles post repair and reinstate safety critical systems including Safety Restraint Systems, airbags, seat belts and pretensions, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, cameras, RADAR and LIDAR systems including collision avoidance technology
