4basebio is an innovative gene synthesis company with the ambition to provide high quality, synthetic DNA for use in gene therapies and vaccine platforms. We are expanding our research and development team at our site just north of Cambridge, UK to facilitate GMP production of our DNA products for use in mRNA and viral applications, as well as developing non-viral nanoparticles for nucleic acid delivery.
We are looking for a Technician to join our New Project Development (NPD) team to support the development, optimisation and validation of new products within the company. This role would suit someone with previous lab work experience, who can work independently and in a collaborative environment. The role requires an individual with strong organisational skills, attention to detail and someone who takes initiative in completing tasks to a high standard. The individual will work in a dynamic, fast-moving environment with multi-disciplinary teams and opportunities to expand their skill set in and out of the lab.
Responsibilities:
* Work collaboratively to support the R&D and manufacturing functions of the company
* Carry out support activities such as glassware washing, autoclaving and media preparation
* Prepare bacterial cultures and perform DNA extractions
* Perform quality control checks on DNA samples using various techniques (e.g., gel electrophoresis, Qubit, Nanodrop)
* Record experimental methods and results to a high standard and in-line with company guidelines
* Attend and participate in relevant meetings, training, and development sessions
* Use, maintain and respect company equipment in accordance with the company’s SOPs and health & safety guidelines
* Undertake any other appropriate roles and responsibilities that reasonably fall within the role holder’s skills and experience as requested
Person Specification:
* BSc in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related life science field
* A minimum of 6 months hands-on experience working in biology or chemistry labs is desirable
* The candidate should be open to conducting routine and repetitive lab work and QC analysis
* Knowledge and some practical experience of molecular/microbiology techniques is desirable
* Experience in pipetting techniques and using Electronic Lab Notebook systems is desirable
* The candidate must have, and understand the importance of, excellent record keeping and time management skills
* The candidate must have excellent team working and communication skills
* The candidate must hold the right to work in the UK
