The Role
We are seeking to recruit a reliable, enthusiastic, and self-motivated person to assist in the safe delivery of Waste Collection services.
A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to:
1. Safely drive LGV’s and other Council vehicles. It is essential you hold an LGV Driving Licence Class C and have the skills required to manoeuvre large vehicles in restricted and difficult areas. Experience of rear steer vehicles would be advantageous.
2. Deliver frontline waste and recycling collection services.
3. Supervise a team of refuse collectors in the practical collection of waste and recyclables.
A current CPC card and the ability to undertake heavy manual work are essential. Previous experience in similar work is desirable.
This is a responsible post, and we offer job shadowing opportunities to help you understand the role and our operations. It’s important that you appreciate how good waste management practices can improve the environment, enhance the region's image, and meet the Council's objectives. You should possess good communication skills, be able to supervise and motivate a small team, and have the ability to undertake a range of duties with minimal supervision. You will need to work both as part of a team and independently.
Clear and courteous communication with colleagues and the public is paramount, as is the ability to follow written instructions. Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, transport compliance, and regulations is required.
Flexibility is essential, as early mornings, evenings, and weekends are required. You will need to work in adverse weather conditions and handle waste. Full training will be provided. The working hours are 37 per week, typically 4 days from 7:00 am to 4:45 pm, with occasional start times at 6:00 am or end times until 6:00 pm.
This permanent position is based at White Lund Depot, Westgate, Morecambe.
The successful candidate must be able to work on Bank Holidays (except Christmas and New Year days), public holidays, and catch-up days as directed. Catch-up days for December holidays will be either the Saturday before or after the holiday.
