Overview
To lead new evaluations regarding pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic (PKPD) for pulmonary optimization within the PKPD laboratory (Research Microbiology Department).
Responsibilities
* Time Kill Curve evaluations
* Immunoassay and liquid chromatographic assays, including the operation, maintenance and management of HPLC systems within the ARL laboratory
* Development of PKPD models
* Method development of respiratory agents
* Providing specialist microbiology susceptibility and molecular tests
* Assistance in North Bristol NHS Trusts NIHR CRN Portfolio and other microbiology research projects
* Work independently and participate in regular out of hours working as required
* Implement the setup and running and quality assure the data generated from pharmacodynamic models as designed to investigate the interactions of antibiotics on bacteria in a research setting
* Ensure accurate data collection and analysis using Excel, Word and specialist software such as GraphPad Prism
* Measurement, analysis and quality assurance of antimicrobial agents used in PK/PD studies by immunoassay, liquid chromatography or bio-assay
* Perform tests to assess the susceptibility of bacteria to antibiotics by routine and specialist techniques including disc methods, agar and broth dilution, E test, and antibiotic–antibiotic interaction studies
* Support the line manager in the delivery of Pharma, NBT and NIHR-CRN research projects
Knowledge
* A relevant science degree, or postgraduate degree with equivalent specialist experience
* 1 year practical experience in PKPD in vitro modelling; MIC science is essential
* 1 year practical and theoretical knowledge of analytical techniques including susceptibility testing; determination of resistance mechanisms and bacterial identification using molecular techniques
* Experience working in a research team
* Able to maintain and demonstrate a high level of practical competence and willingness to undertake further training as required
* Knowledge of laboratory policies, codes of practice and professional guidelines
* Knowledge of health and safety issues pertinent to laboratory work
Skills
* Organize the day-to-day running of the respiratory PKPD simulations under the direction of the Lead Research Clinical Scientist
* Undertake a range of diagnostic tests relevant to the area of work
* Present data both written and oral, including laboratory reports
* Plan, prioritize, implement and evaluate own workload and workload for support team
* Teach and supervise non-professionally qualified staff if required
* Use North Bristol NHS Trust Clerical and IT skills
* Work independently and develop good relationships with colleagues and external collaborators
* Maintain and demonstrate a high level of practical competence and willingness to undertake further training as required
