We’re looking for a Project Officer to support the Diocesan strategic funding bid to the Strategic Mission and Ministry Investment Board (SMMIB). Working closely with diocesan colleagues and visiting parishes across the Diocese of Canterbury, you’ll help shape clear, workable missional design that strengthens a robust, high-quality application.
* Contract: 3 months
* Salary: Band C
* Team: Strategic Programme Office (reporting to the Director of Strategy)
What you’ll be doing
* Engaging with parishes to develop clear, workable missional design aligned to the SMMIB bid.
* Building trust with clergy, PCC officers and lay leaders, listening carefully to context, capacity and priorities, and helping ensure expectations are clear about what funding can (and cannot) enable.
* Helping identify and remove practical barriers so resources and support reach local ministry settings effectively.
* Working with diocesan colleagues to ensure local missional design aligns with bid requirements (including data and financial requirements).
* Capturing learning and feedback to strengthen delivery plans and inform continuous improvement.
About you
You’ll have experience in project support or coordination, a good understanding of parish ministry in the Church of England, and the confidence to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. You’ll bring strong organisation, attention to detail, and clear, effective communication skills, alongside strong IT skills (including Microsoft Office/Excel). A commitment to the mission and values of the Church of England is essential, as is the ability to travel to parishes across the diocese.
