The Opportunity
Stantec's market-leading Environmental Services group supports clients in the environmental, geotechnical, and water sectors. We work with businesses and water companies across the UK and occasionally internationally.
You will join a friendly team of over 80 Hydrologists, Hydrogeologists, Water Resources Planners, and Water Quality Scientists as part of our wider Water Environment Team. These projects include enhancing the resilience of the public water supply and reducing the impact of wastewater treatment infrastructure on the water environment, with opportunities to contribute to flood risk modelling, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) modelling, and nature-based solutions.
Responsibilities
* Deliver water resource management, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, drainage and flood mitigation, and climate impact assessment projects.
* Manage projects and maintain client relationships.
* Assist with winning work and developing new business within the water environment team.
* Provide technical guidance, support, and training to junior colleagues and assist in mentoring and development.
Location
Role ideally based in Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, or Newcastle.
About You
Candidates should have skills in hydraulic and hydrological modelling, reporting, data management, analysis, and presentation. A degree in environmental science, civil engineering, geography, or a related discipline with a strong hydrology or hydraulics focus is required, along with several years of relevant experience, preferably in a consultancy.
Key skills include:
* Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments.
* Hydraulic modelling using packages like Flood Modeller-TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, MIKE FLOOD, InfoWorks ICM.
* Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) design.
* Hydrological modelling using FEH methods, ReFH2, WINFAP.
* Analysis of hydrometric data, calibration of rainfall-runoff models.
* Environmental Impact Assessments related to water resources, flood risk, and water quality.
* GIS, coding (Python), and database management skills are advantageous.
* Chartered or near Chartered status with a relevant professional body.
Additional experience in water quality modelling, quarry/mining FRAs, river restoration, water resources assessments, catchment management, and climate change impact assessment is a plus.
