Purpose of Role
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Manager with specialist knowledge of wet services and water hygiene to lead our mechanical maintenance operations at the Princess Royal Hospital in Orpington.
Job Description
This is a key leadership role, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient management of systems such as domestic hot and cold water, heating, and drainage, with a particular emphasis on Legionella control and water safety compliance.
Responsibilities
•Mechanical Oversight: Manage the operation, maintenance, and statutory compliance of all wet mechanical systems (including domestic water services, heating systems, and drainage).
•Water Hygiene Compliance: Take the lead on water hygiene management, including Legionella control, routine monitoring, risk assessments, and implementing control measures.
•Team Management: Supervise and support a team of engineers and technicians across mechanical and HVAC disciplines, ensuring service delivery standards are consistently met.
•Regulatory Compliance: Act as the Responsible Person (RP) or support the Authorised Person (AP) duties for water hygiene, ensuring full compliance with HTM 04-01, ACOP L8, and other statutory regulations.
•Project Delivery: Work with internal stakeholders and external contractors on mechanical improvement works, remedial actions from risk assessments, and capital upgrade projects.
•Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records including water hygiene logbooks, PPM schedules, testing logs, and audit trails.
Essential Qualifications/Skills
•Technical Expertise: Strong background in mechanical building services, especially wet systems in complex environments.
•Water Hygiene Knowledge: Proven experience in water hygiene management, ideally within a healthcare, hospital, or PFI environment.
•Compliance Experience: Familiarity with HTM 04-01, HSG274, and ACOP L8. AP/RP experience for water hygiene highly desirable.
•Leadership: Effective team manager with the ability to motivate and develop skilled maintenance staff.
•Communication: Clear communicator with experience in working with both internal departments and specialist subcontractors.
