Offer description

You will work as part of an innovative and service-orientated team of analysts, focused on the detection and investigation of inappropriate or malicious activity across a range of Departmental data systems, providing comprehensive analysis of assurance alerts as well as proactive analysis of activity captured in system logs to quickly determine if behaviour/activity detected warrants closer investigation and whether data may have been accessed or used inappropriately.

The Internal Abuse Monitoring Analyst (Operations) collaborates with stakeholders across the Cyber Resilience Centre and wider security community to ensure an effective response to alerts and risks as they are identified, responding to developing fraud threats and security breaches against the Departments IT systems, triaging and progressing potential cases of malicious activity, using analytical tools and root-cause analysis techniques to do so.

The Internal Abuse Monitoring Analyst (Operations) reports to the Senior Internal Abuse Monitoring Analyst (Operations). The Internal Abuse Monitoring Team operates within DWPs Cyber Resilience Centre (CRC) and forms part of the Personnel Security and Insider Threat Monitoring Group (PSITMG).

Responsibilities

As an Internal Abuse Monitoring Analyst (Operations) you will:

Interpret reports and dashboards and respond timeously to alerts generated by the latest analytical tools and capabilities operating across data within DWP systems.
Investigate anomalies arising from the analysis of system logs and audit trails and generate referrals for the intervention and investigation arms of the Department.
Use your knowledge of benefit systems, fraud and security vulnerabilities to ensure an effective response to alerts as they are generated and progress cases of malicious activity or abuse with expert domains.
Develop close working relationships with CRC analytical colleagues to ensure rules and alerts delivered to operations are regularly reviewed and optimised to achieve high quality outcomes.
Work closely with the Senior Internal Abuse Monitoring Analysts to use field-level insight in identifying new and emerging threats.
Use your knowledge of benefit systems and processes to support the full assessment of emerging threats in terms of their potential impact.
At all times ensure data is collected and processed and analysed in line with all DWP and legislative requirements.

Candidates will be required to undertake SIEM tool training if not already held.

Essential Criteria

The following ESSENTIAL criteria will be used in the sift and successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate these:

1. (LEAD CRITERIA) - Recent experience of working in a benefits, fraud, security, or intelligence environment, with knowledge of Government means-tested benefits in particular digital services.
2.Understanding of how means-tested benefits can be maliciously exploited both internally and externally.
3.Candidates will demonstrate an aptitude for analytical work or will have previous experience of identifying security or fraud compromises.
4.Experience of performing under pressure and delivering to deadlines, whilst paying close attention to detail.

Selection process details

Stage 1: APPLICATION & SIFT

As part of the application process you will be asked to complete a CV & 1000 word Personal Statement. All applications will be assessed and sifted based on the essential criteria in the advert, using the information you provide in your completed application form.

An initial sift will take place against the first (lead) criteria in the essential criteria list: Recent experience of working in a benefits, fraud, security, or intelligence environment, with knowledge of Government means-tested benefits in particular digital services.

Only those candidates who meet the standard for that criteria will proceed to the next stage, where the remaining criteria will be scored using the information you provide in your completed application form.

The sift panel will use the information relating to your employment history (your CV) and your personal statement of suitability to assess your experience, skills and knowledge. When giving details of your employment history, you should therefore include details of the work and projects that you have been involved in, and your role therein.

Stage 2 - INTERVIEW

The final stage of the process will be a face-to-face interview where you will be assessed against the Behaviours, Technical Skills, and Strengths outlined in the advert. Candidates will also be required to give a brief presentation at interview, details of which will be provided prior to you attending. Only candidates that have been successful at the previous stage will be invited to attend. Interview dates will be confirmed. We anticipate that interviews will be in January.
