The Stroke Unit on Harvest B at Queens Hospital BHRUT requires an enthusiastic, dynamic and highly motivated Junior Sister/Charge Nurse with an interest in Acute Stroke care with patients having treatment with Thrombolysis, Mechanical Thrombectomy and stepdown patients from the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit who have undergone neurosurgery such a craniectomy.
You would need to have excellent clinical and leadership skills. Expected duties would be of supporting the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse with managerial duties and acting as the nurse in charge or shift leader and to ensure that patients receive the best care possible.

You would be required to work shift pattern consisting of a Long Day and Night, including bank holiday and in and out of normal working hours.
We are expecting and will provide support to with all governance aspects in the role, to attend specialist training and will be supported in your personal developmental goals. BHRUT is a large cross-site organisation encompassing both Queens Hospital in Romford and King George Hospital in Ilford. ASU is a 24/7 inpatient area consisting of stroke patients in a 30-bed acute stroke unit, where you will be supporting patients through the Stroke Pathway.
You will require Adult NMC registration and proven experience at Band 5 level encompassing ward/acute nursing experience. You would be expected to have a significant experience in Stroke and/or Neurosciences with shift management capabilities and supervision experience. You would need to demonstrate the Trusts PRIDE behaviours and assist in achieving the Trusts objectives.
Main duties of the job
To provide support to the Senior Sister in effectively leading and managing the ward, participating in all ward activities as an effective team member, supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse taking the responsibility for the leadership of a team of staff.
To assess care needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. To teach and supervise qualified and unqualified staff, and act as a role model to junior staff, undertaking performance management is required.
To take responsibility and accountability for a group of patients and the whole ward for the duration of the shift, and to provide clinical care to patients with high quality care, and the patient experience, as focus.
To provide holistic nursing care to patients within the unit, utilising all resources to provide excellence in practice.
To develop personally & professionally as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team and undertake appraisal annually.
To provide teaching and mentorship to junior colleagues.
To contribute to the maintenance of a safe environment.
Reports any potential / actual problems to line manager and/or Matron when appropriate.
