This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their skills in patient‑centred diagnostics within a dynamic Point of Care Testing (POCT) service at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB). This vacancy is to work 37.5 hrs/week across all sites at UHB.

This is a key role within our pathology service, supporting the delivery of high‑quality, reliable near‑patient testing that directly informs clinical decision‑making and improves patient outcomes across the organisation.

As part of a collaborative and supportive team, you will help implement, maintain and monitor POCT services, ensuring test results are timely, accurate and compliant with regulatory and governance standards.

The postholder will also support Near Patient testing in the designated areas in emergency departments at UHB, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to Policies and Procedures, while contributing to training and continuous improvement initiatives.

There is also an opportunity for job‑sharing to complete the full‑time role as a duo.

You will be part of the expanding Point of Care team which manages multiple instruments across multiple sites at UHB and works closely with different grades of clinical staff. A clean driving licence and access to a car is essential.

It is anticipated that the suitable candidate will have experience working in a laboratory and an understanding of near‑patient testing within the NHS environment.

Successful candidates will be expected to work as part of the Point of Care Testing (POCT) team to support the delivery of safe, efficient and clinically reliable POCT services across all UHB sites.

* Assist with the maintenance and ongoing monitoring of POCT devices in Emergency departments at UHB sites.
* Troubleshoot equipment issues and liaise with manufacturers when required.
* Manage stock and consumables.
* Communicate effectively with clinical teams, conduct audits, monitor internal and external quality control, record and raise non‑compliance appropriately.
* Train POCT users, assess competency and maintain accurate training records.
* Support the implementation of new POCT technologies and IT connectivity, ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.
* Contribute to service delivery across core and non‑core hours.

The post holder will be based at any of the hospital sites covered by University Hospitals Birmingham and will be expected to cover sites within the Community setting across Birmingham and Solihull. The post holder will be expected to travel to, and from, these hospitals and institutions and will need to work flexibly across the sites.
