At the heart of that transformation journey is the National Operations Strategy and Design Team, in which this critical role will be embedded. The Head of Network Modelling will lead and grow a recently formed network modelling team, comprised of high calibre generalist and network specialist modellers. This is the first time in the history of Royal Mail that we have brought full Network Modelling capability in-house, making this an exceptionally interesting time to join. You will work as part of the Operations Strategy Team and closely with the Digital Transformation team, forming the ideas engine-room for Operations Transformation in the business. You will be responsible, in collaboration with the Director of Operations Strategy and Design, for defining the key questions that need answering to drive our network forward, translating these into a logical and robust series of discrete modelling tasks, managing and developing your team to execute, and engaging and communicating with senior stakeholders up to Exec Board level across the business in both an ‘internal supplier’ and ‘internal customer’ context.
This is a key leadership role in which you will need to be recognised as a digital leader and modelling SME across business, data, technology and modelling stakeholders, and manage senior stakeholders across multiple functions at the same time to ensure that a truly cross-functional view is taken on every piece of analysis.
You will also develop a team of experts proficient in modern established tooling to yield accelerated value, in particular network modelling tools and specifically Supply Chain Guru, but also the likes of PowerBI, Python, Advanced Excel.
You will be accountable to positively challenge and influence Executive Board and their Directors to optimise our strategy and transformation.

Experience
9. Direct sector experience (or demonstrable success in an adjacent sector) in postal and / or parcel.
10. Influencing investment and being a leading voice in design of large-scale transformations
11. Leadership of an effective network modelling and design team
12. Demonstrable experience in constructing and maintaining complex network models, ideally in Supply Chain Guru, balancing cost, capex, service quality, time and other factors.
13. Broad modelling expertise, and track record of driving projects at pace without sacrificing value of insights generated.
14. Familiarity or proficiency with other tools or software to broaden the scope of the team would be highly welcome.
Qualifications
15. Master’s degree, or equivalent knowledge and practical experience, in a field with significant use of both computer programming and advanced modelling and quantitative methods
