Overview
Head of Transformation and Organisational Improvement – Guardian Jobs (on behalf of RSPB). This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and leads the Transformation & Organisational Improvement team to optimise operations, improve delivery of the strategic plan, and foster a culture of learning and improvement across the organisation.
As the UK’s largest nature conservation charity, the RSPB has an ambitious programme to transform how it saves nature and deepens its impact. The incumbent will be a senior leader, working with the Executive Board and trustees to drive cross‑organisational change that creates effectiveness and efficiency.
Responsibilities
* Head the Transformation & Organisational Improvement team, directing planning, prioritisation and future development of objectives and capabilities.
* Act as a trusted adviser to the Executive Board on operational effectiveness.
* Identify inefficiencies, risks, and bottlenecks across functions, systems and processes and drive improvements.
* Build strong relationships across departments to align and streamline processes and translate insights into action.
* Collaborate with leaders and teams to analyse root causes, identify opportunities to improve ways of working, and secure buy‑in for change.
* Support and enable teams to optimise their own ways of working, providing tools, training and coaching to simplify change management.
* Demonstrate leadership by creating a clear vision, inspiring engagement, and developing teams through coaching and mentoring.
* Establish clear metrics to track improvement benefits across the operation.
Experience We Are Looking For
* Experience of leading and delivering major change programmes and ongoing organisational improvement in a complex environment through people.
* Enterprise leadership experience, collaborating with other senior leaders and using influencing skills to build credibility and support.
* Experience of leading and developing a high‑performing team that reflects a positive culture aligned with our values.
Skills
* Leadership and people management to motivate, coach and develop team members and facilitate improvements across the organisation.
* High‑level communication to present, influence, facilitate and represent the organisation.
* Ability to manage multiple workstreams, prioritize effectively and allocate resources dynamically.
* Collaboration skills to build relationships, navigate politics, and manage conflicts.
* Familiarity with digital tools for collaboration, workflow management, data insight and digital transformation.
* Business management skills to understand strategy, functions and decision‑making.
* Strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and its role in organisational success.
Qualifications
* Degree level education or relevant high‑level experience to communicate complex messages and use management information for responsibilities.
* Relevant professional qualifications in project/programme management, improvement methodology and/or change management, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Location: Flexible in UK
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £70,490 - £75,257 Per Annum
