JOB [ Click Apply]c2040065 Band 6 Biomedical Scientist - Haematology (Locum) - Scarborough, UK Hourly Rate: £26.00 Type: Full-time, Ongoing Locum We are offering an excellent opportunity for a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to join the Haematology team in Scarborough, with a competitive rate of £26.00 per hour. This full-time locum post provides the chance to develop your specialist knowledge while contributing meaningfully to patient care in a busy and well-supported haematology laboratory. Key Responsibilities Conduct analysis of patient samples, Quality Control (QC), and External Quality Assessment (EQA) in line with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quality Assurance policies. Maintain the effective functioning of specialist laboratory equipment through regular housekeeping, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance. Validate and authorise patient results, and communicate technical findings clearly to clinicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Participate in the department's 24/7 shift rota, including evenings, weekends, and nights, often working independently to ensure critical results are processed without delay. Essential Criteria BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent IBMS-accredited degree. Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist. Completion of the IBMS Specialist Portfolio, or substantial post-registration experience. Full UK driving licence - essential due to potential travel between sites. Desirable Experience Routine experience with automated haematology platforms and blood film morphology. Proficiency in automated blood grouping and antibody screening. Previous exposure to haemoglobinopathy investigations and/or immunophenotyping (cell markers). Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and current diagnostic technologies.
