Overview Looking for a consultant role where you can actually practice holistic, high-quality psychiatry while enjoying an unparalleled quality of life?
Following the retirement of a valued colleague, we are expanding our senior clinical capacity in beautiful North Devon. This is a rare opportunity to clinically lead a friendly, highly cohesive multidisciplinary team with experienced CPN, CAP and Clinical Psychology colleagues, an Art Therapist, PSW, Administrators and others.
Here, you aren't just an asset on paper - you are a valued leader. Our clinical model actively protects your time: we utilise a Trust-wide Referral Management Team and local triage, meaning the vast majority of new assessments are completed by the team, leaving you to focus on the most complex formulations and engagement with primary care and other teams.
Based in Barnstaple and Ilfracombe, you will work alongside fully engaged GP leads, commissioned VCFSE services of the Devon Mental Health Alliance, and robust specialist teams such as perinatal, CRHT, and Complex Emotional Needs Service.
We share a single EPR (SystmOne) with local GPs and CAMHS, supported by a digital strategy designed to make care easier, more responsive and better connected.
We champion flexibility and are fully open to discussing compressed hours, part-time requests, or hybrid remote allocations to fit your life.
Relocation and Lifestyle We offer a comprehensive relocation package to assist with your move.
Beyond the clinic, our trust is situated in a region offering an unparalleled quality of life, perfect for those who value outdoor pursuits, coastal living, and a balanced lifestyle.
Clinical Role As a senior clinical leader, you will provide medical expertise and strategic guidance across our General Adult CMHT and the Specialist Team for Early Intervention in Psychosis (STEP). Your day-to-day clinical practice is designed to be varied, modern, and manageable. You will deliver consultations via a balanced mix of in‑person outpatient clinics, telephone/video options, weekly MDT meetings, and cross‑agency collaboration via online Multi‑Agency Team meetings.
Local colleagues meet in regular supportive peer groups and your voice and expertise will directly shape our services. You will join our well‑attended, in‑person quarterly Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), a highly supportive professional space where the consultant body actively influences Trust practice and policy.
Training and Education As an Approved Clinician and S12 doctor, you will support essential statutory work. As a Deanery Approved Trainer, you will enjoy a rewarding educational environment, supervising resident doctors (CT13, GPVTS and FY) with strong support from our medical education team. You will also have opportunities to teach within our North Devon Postgraduate Psychiatry Teaching programme and regional programmes in Exeter. We actively protect your time for CPD, service development and quality improvement.
