Senior Design Engineer Epsom £55k-£70k DOE plus benefits Our client is seeking an experienced Senior HV Cable Route Engineer to lead the development and delivery of high-voltage cable infrastructure projects. This role will provide technical leadership across route identification, corridor development, optioneering, feasibility studies, constraints assessment and constructability reviews, while guiding multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will oversee route development activities, review technical outputs, engage with clients and stakeholders, and ensure solutions are practical, compliant and aligned with project objectives. This position is ideal for an engineer with extensive experience in HV cable, utility or linear infrastructure projects and a proven ability to lead teams and drive technical excellence. Key Responsibilities Lead HV cable route development from concept through to construction. Manage route identification, corridor selection, optioneering and feasibility studies. Assess environmental, planning, utility, geotechnical, highway and land constraints. Provide technical assurance for route alignments, reports and engineering deliverables. Define survey requirements and interpret topographical, utility and geotechnical data. Ensure compliance with legislation, industry standards and client requirements. Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage project delivery against programme, budget and quality targets. Attend client meetings, workshops and design reviews, presenting technical solutions and recommendations. Support construction teams with technical queries, constructability reviews and risk mitigation. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development and continuous improvement initiatives. Requirements Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Extensive experience (typically 10 years) in HV cable routing, utility infrastructure or major linear projects. Strong background in route development, optioneering and feasibility assessments. Good understanding of underground HV cable installation and associated civil engineering works. Experience leading technical reviews and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of BIM processes, quality assurance procedures, CDM and SHEQ principles. Strong communication, stakeholder management and project planning skills. Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Microsoft Office applications. Desirable Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (ICE or equivalent). Experience leading complex multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
