Description An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Multi skilled Shift Technician who will be based at the prestigious HJ Heinz site in Wigan. The position is to cover the maintenance of the Company’s Repack operation and NDC automation equipment. Working on a new bespoke packaging line, utilising hi-tech 6axis pick and place robots and fully automatic palletisers. Successful candidates will be required to rotate over three shifts, 6-2, 2-10, 10-6. Sunday – Thursday for nights and Monday – Friday for the other shifts. Total flexibility will be required in respect of shift working and applicants must be available to work any 5 from 7 where required. The position will report directly to the Engineering Team Leader. The Role: The primary aim is to systematically maintain and support a new production line to enable agreed operational up time. Contributing to the provision of advice and expertise in electrical and mechanical systems to ensure conformity with statutory safety requirements. Carrying out continuous improvement work meeting agreed timescales, quality standards and KPIs. Identifying and raising defects as a result of plant surveillance and monitoring, advising on priority defects in designated areas of responsibility, using root cause analysis techniques. Investigating plant failure or deterioration, recommending and carrying out remedial action. Monitoring the effectiveness of remedial maintenance or improvement work. Supporting the maintenance of plant history and statutory records as required by providing the company’s in-house management system “workmate” with all requisite data. Identifying the need for improvements to engineering plant and recommending solutions. Contributing to the quality improvement process, with the ethos of getting it right first time. Assist with breakdowns/servicing when required in other areas of business. Mainly chameleon line and dc automation. Adopting a continuous improvement methodology whilst implementing preventative maintenance objectives. Maintain housekeeping standards within the operational environment and throughout the Repack department based at the Distribution Centre. The Person: You should be able to demonstrate the following competencies: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels. Ability to work with cross functional teams. Must be able to work on own initiative. Multi-skilled with knowledge of electrical, mechanical and pneumatic components and systems Must have a passion for Continuous Improvement and be able to evidence expertise in this area. Willingness and ability to share knowledge and train others to up skill as required. Flexible approach to all tasks undertaken and changes in work patterns Sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and practices with total commitment to site specific Safe Systems of Work. Knowledge of Lean Processes and their applications would be an advantage. The production line will incorporate: Induct conveyer system, pallet lift tables Six axis pick and place robots In line palletiser Tray erector Palletisation of finished packs onto various pallet builds Pallet wrapper Pallet and associated conveyoring Labelling of trays and pallets Experience in several of the above will be a distinct advantage. Ideally would hold as a minimum, one or more of the following qualifications: ONC or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Apprentice time served in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. NVQ level 3 Mechanical or Electrical. Modern Apprenticeship, i.e. NVQ. City & Guilds qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering relevant to factory production activity. EITB (Engineering Industry Training Board) engineering training.
