Job Title: Caretaker / Maintenance Person

Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable skilled Caretaker/Maintenance person to join our team at The Garwood Foundation in South Croydon, supporting both our school and charity shops.
This is a varied role that combines building and vehicle maintenance, gardening, pool care, and ensuring facilities are safe, clean, and well presented for pupils, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
In this role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining our facilities and supporting our mission of enabling individuals with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. Your contributions will directly impact the well-being of our residents and service users.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out general repairs, painting, decorating, and basic plumbing.
* Maintain school buses, including safety checks, cleaning, and garage trips.
* Groundskeeping duties such as grass cutting, weeding, pruning, and clearing leaves.
* Pool maintenance, including daily chemical testing and cleaning.
* Ensure facilities comply with safety requirements (fire alarms, emergency lighting, water checks, PAT testing).
* Support charity shops with minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
* Unlock and lock the school, ensuring site security.
Essential Criteria
* Experience in basic building repairs and maintenance.
* Confident using hand tools and electrical power tools safely.
* Able to manage own schedule and work with minimal supervision.
* Strong communication skills with an approachable and cooperative attitude.
* Calm under pressure and confident in responding to emergencies.
* Willingness to develop skills through training.
* Confident working at height and capable of manual handling/heavy lifting (training provided).
* Knowledge of basic health and safety.
* Full, clean UK driving licence.
* Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
