Paediatric Emergency Department Charge Nurse

Are you an Paediatric Registered Nurse, with significant ED experience who is educated to degree level?

We have a vacancy for a Band 7 clinical charge nurse in our Paediatric Emergency Department working 37.5 hours per week and welcome applications from people who meet the essential criteria.

NUH is a major Trauma Centre covering the east Midlands and also the current home of the Channel 4 series "24 hours in A&E" Our busy ED is one of the largest in Europe and has its own separate Paediatric ED.

We are looking for a degree educated, highly motivated individual, who has the ability to solve complex issues, whilst being a visible and supportive clinical advisor and leader.

This role will include full internal rotation covering days, nights, weekends and public holidays.


Main duties of the job

This exciting role requires a high level of clinical expertise, along with the ability to manage a complex department alongside the paediatric nursing and clinical leadership team, negotiating flow into the Children Hospital.

Demanding and challenging, this role will engage all of your existing skills and build on them. It will provide the opportunity to become involved in complex process change and require high levels of staff engagement. The senior nursing team not only drives and delivers patient care in a challenging environment but is looking for a dynamic individual to maximise the consistency and effectiveness of the service provided in the CYPED.

Outside of clinical hours, you will also be responsible for the care and management of the nursing team and the ability to drive standards of patient care, not only on a daily basis but to ensure long term strategies are in place.

Training & Qualifications

* Degree in health/nursing related studies
* Level 1 Registration RSCN/Child Branch
* Competent in medicines management
* APLS provider
* Further professional qualification
* APLS Instructor
* Relevant post basic study appropriate to role


Experience

* Significant post registration experience to include management/ leadership experience, must have significant experience working at Band 6 level
* Supervision of non registered staff, pre registration and post basic students
* Experience of mentoring
* Ability to manage the clinical area efficiently and effectively
* Ability to lead change and new ways of working
* Experience of recruitment and selection


Communication and Relationship skills

* Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, must be able to disseminate complex information to the team

Physical skills

* Physically able to perform the full range of nursing duties, including manoeuvring patients
* Dexterity and accuracy in undertaking clinical skills, use of equipment and documentation
* Able to undertake patient manual handling manoeuvres and non patient handling manoeuvres
* Evidence of moving and handling training


Other requirements specific to the role (e.g. be able to work shifts/on call)
