About the role:

Learning to travel independently is one of life's essential skills and for many young people with a disability, learning to use public transport independently improves their confidence and the choices they can make. It enables them to connect with their local community, education and leisure facilities and be with friends.

As the Travel Training Co-ordinator, you will manage a team of travel trainers (full-time and part-time) as they work 1:1 with young people aged between 11-25 with additional needs, helping them to develop the skills needed to travel safely and independently to and from school/college. You will monitor and manage the performance of the travel trainers and provide regular updates to key stakeholders.

You will be expected to manage the referral process, assess the suitability of the young people and liaise with the local authority, schools, college as well as other stakeholders; as well as forming honest, professional working relationships with parents and carers.

Core Responsibilities:

Organisation of Travel Training Project

Co-responsibility for planning and implementing individual training programmes for young people with disabilities including;

* To work in Partnership with Local Authorities and identified educational settings.
* To use Pure Innovations Assessment Tool to assess each student's travelling skills and evaluate their learning.
* To create a person-centred training programme for each student. This may include developing accessible resources for working with each student based on their individual needs e.g use of photographs, worksheets.
* To manage the risk associated with individual travel training programmes effectively, including writing, monitoring and reviewing risk assessments.
* To meet regularly with families and school/college staff to review the progress of each individual.
* To support parents and carers including as a minimum; attending all initial and final meetings.
* To devise and present workshops for groups of young people on various aspects of travel training e.g. keeping safe in the community.
* Attend various forums/meetings to promote the Travel Training Project and increase referrals.
* To promote the project with parents, professionals and young people. This may include evening events.
* Work alongside the Travel Training Contracts Manager / Senior Travel Training Co-ordinator to plan and prioritise team and individual activities towards achieving travel training key performance indicators and agreed business aims.

Staff Management

Co-responsibility for line managing a team of travel trainers, including;

* Line management of a team of Travel Trainers, including adapting management style to accommodate supervision needs within the team.
* To deliver training to people identified as travel trainers and oversee their delivery of travel training
* Deliver one to one supervision/management of travel trainers; including completing appraisals and reviews.
* Responsibility for quality assurance through observations/spot checks and paperwork audits of Travel Trainers
* To attend training sessions as required by Pure Innovations or Local Authorities
* Liaise with the Travel Training Contracts Manager to work through performance management issues
* Set individual Travel Trainers objectives and targets and monitor their performance to achieve them.
* Work with the Travel Training Contracts Manager to ensure effective recruitment, induction and mentoring for new travel trainers.
* Support the delivery of accredited Travel Trainer training including the assessment of coursework both internally and externally.
* Provide duty cover for other travel training projects as required.

Administration

* To undertake risk assessments for identified young people to identify and manage risks both during travel training and when they are travelling independently.
* To create a training programme for each young person and ensure that documentation is set up to record learning and progress.
* To follow a quality assurance process, to ensure travel training programmes meet the quality standards.
* To keep up to date records and reports on the progress of young people using a computer database.
* To ensure compliance with GDPR at all times.
* To ensure appropriate reports are completed accurately and to deadlines.
* To take responsibility for prioritising workload and managing own time.

Teamwork

* To attend and contribute to regular Travel Training Project team meetings / Employment Team meetings and any other meetings as required; both within Pure Innovations and externally.
* Attend and participate in meetings and training events to develop the service or improve team or individual performance.
* To provide support and guidance to team members including travel trainers across Greater Manchester, including providing cover during absence.
* To provide guidance to colleagues across Pure Innovations regarding travel training.
* To act as a point of contact, via phone call, to Travel Trainers from early morning through to early evening.
* To cover Travel training shifts in case of any absences/sickness (7.30am – 9.30am & 2.30pm – 4.30pm,)

Other

* Understand and adhere to all policies and procedures identified at Pure Innovations Ltd and any relevant LA policy/procedures including lone and remote working policies and child protection policies.
* To contribute to the Pure Innovations website and social media presence by identifying and compiling suitable case studies, photographs and video footage to promote the impact and benefits of independent travel training.
* To attend regular supervision with the line manager.
* To complete the Open Awards Level 2 'Skills for Teaching Independent Travel' and Level 3 'Certificate in Managing Independent Travel Training Programmes'.
* Such other duties as required by the Line or Department Manager.

Requirements:

* To work flexibly and manage own time
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills when working with vulnerable people, parents, professionals, colleagues.
* Experience of motivating people.
* Experience of working with vulnerable adults/young people/children and disadvantaged people in a person-centred way would be an advantage

Time Scales:

* Closing date for applications will be 10th October 2025.
* In-person interviews will be held on the 21st of October 2025 at our Head Office in Hazel Grove.
