We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Family Lawyer to join an established practice in Newmarket. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional to manage a varied caseload of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, financial settlements, and domestic violence cases. You will play a key role in providing expert legal support to clients while working within a collaborative and supportive team.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Representation: Manage a full caseload of family law matters, advising clients on divorce, separation, child arrangements, financial settlements, and domestic abuse cases.
Legal Drafting and Document Preparation: Draft legal documents such as divorce petitions, separation agreements, consent orders, and child arrangement orders. Review and provide clear advice on legal documentation.
Negotiations and Dispute Resolution: Represent clients in negotiations and mediations, striving for amicable settlements where possible but representing clients robustly when court proceedings are required.
Court Appearances: Represent clients in family law proceedings, including hearings for divorce, child custody, and financial matters. Provide effective advocacy in family courts when necessary.
Client Communication: Provide clear, empathetic, and professional advice to clients, ensuring they are well-informed throughout the legal process. Foster long-term relationships with clients, ensuring they feel supported and confident in the process.
Compliance: Ensure that all work is compliant with current family law regulations, including the Children Act 1989 and the Family Procedure Rules.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with other legal professionals in the family law team, sharing knowledge and resources to achieve the best outcomes for clients.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Experience: At least 5 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE) in family law, with a solid understanding of divorce, child custody, and financial settlements.
Client Focused: Ability to build strong, empathetic relationships with clients and manage sensitive cases with professionalism and care.
Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of family law principles, including divorce, children’s law, financial settlements, and domestic violence protection orders.
Communication: Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to explain complex legal matters in simple terms.
Organisation: Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a varied caseload effectively, meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
Qualifications: Qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive, or equivalent.
Desirable Skills:
Mediation or Collaborative Law Experience: Experience in family mediation or collaborative law processes is desirable but not essential.
Leadership Potential: Although not essential, prior experience mentoring junior staff or managing client relationships would be beneficial.
Benefits:
Salary: Up to £65,000 per annum (depending on experience).
